Ne0
^^ was about to post that, looks damn sexy. But after reading that xoom article which DS posted, I feel honeycomb is more or less in experimental stage now, we would be paying for Google's R&D, acting as their beta testing team
Death Stryke
^Exactly. Honeycomb is good no doubt, but its in beta today. If I were to buy one, I would buy a honeycomb device next year when its version 3.2 or 3.4 along with all the usual relevant applications converted to tablet optimized form. Today there are hardly any honeycomb apps to speak of.

You only pay for the hardware. OS is free. I have seen the 3.0 api. Its android 2.3 + more and by no mean in experimental stage or anything. Dont get distracted by the beta label. ^Exactly. Of course we dont pay Google anything, thats immaterial whether or not we get it for free as we have paid full price nonetheless. The point is, it should be usable enough for the end customer. I see great potential for Honeycomb to blossom into a great OS. But Google needs to step it up and iron out bugs, they need to coax devs to push more tablet apps. Honestly, today IMO the software, its UI and variety of applications far outweigh the hardware. Every tab has great hardware and almost all have similar specs today give or take a few bells and whistles most of which dont matter. Heck, they all look the same to the untrained eye too. The Sony S1 and Notion Ink Adam in particular look very similar. Unless they (Google and the maker) lock down the software and ensure that the software complements the hardware, its pointless. Btw, why are all Honeycomb tablets based on a landscape form factor. Atleast the way their backs are designed and with the logos positioning. Isn't photo/movie viewing the only thing worthwhile in landscape mode on a tablet? For everything else, its portrait. The Sony S1 for example will look/feel very uneven in portrait mode due to the varying thickness of the back. The S2 will fail. Just no doubt about it seeing the design. Its like someone opened their Nintendo DS and thought "hey i have an idea" Edited April 26, 2011 by Death Stryke

Landscape is the way to go, it's easier to hold with one hand as well. It's better for everything. 2ndly, IMO, Honeycomb itself is pretty nice. No doubt it's doing nowhere as good as the iPad, but I really like the OS, mainly for it's fantastic UI. The apps are coming, day by day more Honeycomb optimized apps are popping up, more tablet games are coming up. The Android market unfortunately doesn't have a good way of sorting apps that support both the phone and tablet. Hopefully they improve upon this after I/O. My current favorite 3.0 tablet that I might end up purchasing is the Transformer, due to it's lower price, and more importantly the superb dock. Death Stryke
Holding in landscape is easier? How so? Portrait mode feels like holding a book. Which I feel comes naturally to us. I prefer browsing in portrait too. Of course ymmv! Infact, its easier on the iPad to go landscape because of its aspect ratio (4:3). The sony S1 (16:10?)for example is too widescreen to be held comfortably for long. I dont like too much widescreen for browsing either. Ah, with my case it's much easier to hold the iPad in landscape. There's a reason all the monitors and TV's nowadays are usually widescreen ; 16:10 is a great aspect ratio for movies & websites. Have you used a 16:10 tablet or even a 4:3 tablet to make a decision? You're just making assumptions. What do you mean you don't like widescreen for browsing? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Are you still using a 4:3 monitor for your PC/laptop?

Im on 16:10 myself. But my browser is never maximised so I'm kinda not acclimated to fullscreen 16:10. I have used an ipad a bit to judge that its comfy in both modes. From what ive seen of the asus tab, I find it a bit too wide for my liking or maybe its just youtube. Ya I gotta see it in person though. Im going to b browsing mainly in portrait as I prefer that. btw the galaxy tab 10.1 is a aspct ratio I like. Is is the same?
Solitaire
For any screen larger than 5 inches I prefer widescreen. It's only for phones that I prefer the portrait format.

All Android Honeycomb tablets will be 16:10 if I'm not wrong. It's been nearly 10 months since I got the iPad, I don't ever remember using it in portrait mode except for some games which only run in that mode. Editing documents, seeing videos, surfing, and even the apps I use are better used in landscape. Even for reading books, landscape is better. Browsing in portrait on the iPad or any screen larger than 4.5" is weird. Even if your browser is not maximized, you're still using it in the 16:10 aspect ratio. The stock browser sucks anyway, I use Atomic Web, Tabbed Browsing on such a huge screen is a must.

I talked about it on Twitter. He's covered it fully, especially the awesomeness of a proper dock which makes it into a netbook ; perfect for productivity. I for one will prefer landscape over portrait for tablets.
Death Stryke
Maybe its just the holding it like a book thing I'm imagining in my head. Nice review. Looks actually fanastic. The dock is actually quite good. I wish we had a pointing device for iOS too. Then again, I don't intend to be productive with a tablet. Dock or no dock. Itll be a lounging device and photo viewer alone for me edit: spellings corrected. Man, its tough using a mobile browser to type. cursors jump off randomly Edited April 26, 2011 by Death Stryke
achilles
Landscape may be undoubtedly better for media viewing but the 4:3 works better for apps, portrait or landscape. That's why the iPad is killing it. Amazing apps. Edited April 26, 2011 by achilles

Landscape may be undoubtedly better for media viewing but the 4:3 works better for apps, portrait or landscape. That's why the iPad is killing it. Amazing apps. Funny, all the top apps of the iPad, as well as my favorite apps mostly run in the landscape mode. The aspect ratio has nothing to do with the quality or quantity of the apps. How you arrived to that conclusion, astounding. The iPad would've gotten all the amazing apps even if it had a 16:10 resolution. Anyone here used Motorola Atrix 4G thinking of getting it from US friend is dropping by Decent phone, great battery life, possibly the best, but behind on software(2.2), has Motoblur(ugh) and the bootloader is completely locked down. I would suggest against it.
