Death Stryke
Lounging device + Photo viewer = mostly in landscape mode. Yeah. True that. Lets see how my usage turns out. In any case i'm getting the iPad2 day 1 whenever it launches here. Maybe what you said is right and eventually i'll use landscape for browsing. Just that lot of websites have lot of empty space in the sides which looks odd widescreen and it sort of fills the screen in portrait. Of course, it probably depends from website to website. Although I never disagreed about photos and movies. They're definitely landscape. No questions about that. edit: Btw, are we forced to see mobile versions or full websites in the ipad browser? Solitaire
Funny, all the top apps of the iPad, as well as my favorite apps mostly run in the landscape mode. The aspect ratio has nothing to do with the quality or quantity of the apps. How you arrived at that conclusion, astounding is simply magic! . Depends on the site, and how they identify the device. Sometimes it's Mobile versions, sometimes full versions. That's why I use Atomic Web Browser, can switch the device ID on the fly. And Tabbed Browsing. And the ability to transfer your desktop bookmarks to the iPad.

The aspect ratio has nothing to do with the quality or quantity of the apps. How you arrived to that conclusion, astounding. The iPad would've gotten all the amazing apps even if it had a 16:10 resolution. Er..did I not say portrait or landscape? Landscape 4:3 offers a seemingly much bigger touch area. Anyway I feel the aspect ratio matters a lot for the apps. 16:10 landscape would have reduced it to too much media-ey. Ofcourse, again, IMO. Plus DS is right about there being a lot of empty space on the side while browsing. The browser on my Mac is never in a widescreen mode. It's 'fit to content' like it would be in portraid iPad mode, even the iPhone. Mostly I move to landscape while browsing if I need to type a bit but I can see how landscape would be preferred by a lot of people for browsing, specially Windows users. You're forgetting one very important aspect ; resolution. Your computers have a much higher resolution display than the tablets. Whether you're using the 1280*800 or 1024*768 resolution displays, there is hardly any empty space on the side. The opposite is true for desktop/laptop displays. I don't understand what you mean by that. My computer is 1280*800 at 13" and iPad is at 1024*768 at 9.7".

Ne0
android runs on so many devices from many companies, but iOS is just two or three and from one company. The comparison is not fair.

The same concern should be echoed when people tout the iPhone saying "Oh look the iPhone has sold so much" It's the only iOS device (as in each year there's only one of those out). Ne0
^^ how an OS which runs on a handful of devices (2-4) has around 25% of the market, as compared to another OS which runs on some 100 devices from 5-6 companies. Its like comparing numbers of windows to mac os. There's just no point.
Death Stryke
@gaurav I dont get that logic. If one single device (whoever be the manufacturer) can sell so much, then its quite an achievement. Anyway, Android will of definitely capture the majority due to obvious reasons. Still, even in coming months, I dont think iOS will fall behind and will remain a close 2nd. When the iPhone5 launches, the ratios will change again a bit. What I'm saying is the choice of iOS devices is limited to one device. Hence assuming people buy their devices based on OS choices primarily and features as a secondary concern then the iPhone trumps the rest by that account. achilles
i bet the global ratios are even higher in android's favor. Nope. Not even close. android runs on so many devices from many companies, but iOS is just two or three and from one company. The comparison is not fair. It's completely fair. iPhone 3GS is available as a cheaper variant too. It's smartphones on iOS vs smartphones on Android. The only thing though is, when they compare platforms and not just smartphone platforms (like in this case), most still exclude the iTouch and the iPad. That's weird. The same concern should be echoed when people tout the iPhone saying "Oh look the iPhone has sold so much" It's the only iOS device (as in each year there's only one of those out). But if there were variants like the iPod line, then Apple would be offering :gasp: choice.

Like I said before, its like windows/mac os. More people buy laptops than macbooks. Android is fast becoming the "windows" of mobile phones. I'll be interested to see how how the market reacts when Nokia starts pumping out its WP7 handsets.
Death Stryke
Maybe. Anyway, I think this will definitely change when the iPhone 5 launches simultaneously on Verizon and At&T. Not to mention I am reading they are testing a T-mobile version too. That will change the pie chart.
