Yeah. Galaxy S2. Suuuureee. Knowing how committed Samsung is to releasing updates I'm better off getting an E7.

Dunno where the hate's coming from but Froyo has been put quite a while for stock SGS devices and the Gingerbread ROM was released, then pulled (by Google) for some quality checks.

While Samsung may be slower than HTC is putting out updates. they are miles ahead of Sony and will only get better. They added 300 people to the phone software dev team last quarter

it only hastens the inevitable.

Found out thanks to him that my crown jewels are already well-done thanks to my N79 which I had for 2 years :P

I never looked at SAR as one of the main criterion when purchasing a phone.

I have a HTC Desire Z

If i root my phone will i void my warrenty?

What if i restore it back to factory settings..after rooting it..will it unroot it?

P.S-Anyone has tried Applanet here?

if you root your phone technically it will void your warranty but

a)You can unroot it

b)in case of hardware failiure you wont be able to switch on the phone so the phone people wont even know that you have rooted it

c)People here are dumb anyways so they wont even realise you have rooted it.

Rooting is simple,go for it!

No,if you go back to factory settings you will lose a temporary root bt not a permanent root

If you do a factory reset you lose root access. Although it's pretty easy to gain it back. Only the first step of disabling the protection is tricky.

whats the expected price of Galaxy S2 going to be here in India ?

I think it'll be below 30k. Maybe initially it might be above 30k, but it'll drop and stabilize around 26-28k.

Froyo took too long to show up officially. Gingerbread heh. As for Sony yeah they're worse. And I won't be surprised if those 300 people are working on other stuff like Bada and WP7. I'll believe it when the updates *actually* show up.

Yup, Froyo was a disaster. However, it seems that Samsung is being quicker with Gingerbread. But manufacturer's are never that fast. Till now, not ONE phone that has released with 2.2 or 2.1 over the past year has received an update to 2.3. Only 3 phones have released with 2.3, Xperia Play, Xperia Arc and SGS2, and all 3 of them recently, around 4 months after the Nexus S released with 2.3.

If you do go for a non-Nexus Android phone, you should take a phone that is very well supported by CyanogenMod. In this case, my suggestion would be the LG Optimus 2X, which is currently a huge flavor of the quarter in the Android community. It's the only dual core phone which is being supported by various CM devs.

A good stable build of CM7 released in January, around a month after 2.3 got merged into AOSP, and was released for around 25-30 devices which are being supported by CM.

Unfortunately, SGS is not officially supported by CM. The reason for this is, when they managed to get a stable build for the SGS, it broke compatibility with various other devices, which was not acceptable. So there are unofficial forks and side builds, but it's not the same.

So right now, I would suggest two phones ; LG O2X or the Nexus S.

Also, the Nexus S has brilliant community support ; it has two of the best community ROM's, MIUI(which uses CM as the base build) and CM, and both are being worked on extensively on the Nexus S. Obviously, it does help that Google has released full source code including the required drivers and libraries for the Nexus S ; manufacturer's don't release the proprietary stuff, thus the CM team has to write their own drivers for other devices.

I love the SGS2, the hardware is there, 1 GB RAM, SAMOLED+, NFC, but the software part is what irks me the most. Unless it gets official CM support, I wouldn't buy it at full price.

Ok Boys.. Now suggest nice App on Android (that too free!) to edit camera pics. I like to play with effects and colours..

Downloaded Photoshop but can't get the hang of it. What is Picsay?

I use PicSay Pro for all photo editing as well, great app, very easy to use as well.

The Nexus S with NSCollab / CM 7 over the last few days has been just:

f**king awesome. Not even OC'd and the phone flies. The previous issues with LauncherPro are very very very rare now. The battery seems to be taking a while to calibrate, but that might be cos I deleted battery data before flashing it. :fear: Getting around 20 hours per charge on moderate usage.

HKP Any link to your app's page on the android market?

Installed Netarchy's 1.3.0.7 kernel on my NSCollab 1.0.21 Nexus S. Thought I'd check out undervolting and see if it has any big impact on battery life. So I went into terminal emulator and dropped the voltages in the table for each step by 25 mV. For anyone who wants to know how, this excerpt from an XDA forum post should make it clear:

Go into Terminal Emulator and type SU (this gives terminal super user permissions)

then type in

'cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/UV_mV_table' (without quotes)

This will show what your voltages for all frequencies are (remember the phone constantly scales from 100mhz (or however low you have set it) up to 1.4ghz (or however high you have set it.

But anyway you should see this:

1400mhz: 1450 mV

1300mhz: 1400 mV

1200mhz: 1350 mV

1000mhz: 1250 mV

800mhz: 1200 mV

400mhz: 1050 mV

200mhz: 950 mV

100mhz: 950 mV

Now what i would reccommend doing is applying -25v across the board. (then obviously you test for stability etc and go lower if you want)

So to do this you would type in :

'echo "1425 1375 1325 1225 1175 1025 925 925" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/UV_mV_table' (without quotes)

You then want to check they have been applied so do another

'cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/UV_mV_table' (without quotes)

then you should see all the frequencies with the modified voltages

Phone doesn't feel any less snappier. Did a stress test using SetCPU which didn't fail. I quit the test after around 800000ms and there were no failures till then. Ran Neocore and Quadrant and both benchmarks went fine without any hitches or glitches. So I'm assuming my phone's undervolted settings are stable for now.

Sadly though I'll have to manually set these voltages again on my next boot. Will check out these settings for the next day or two and see how it goes. If it's stable I'll try dropping to 50mV and check again. Some bugger's been able to get it down a 100mV. :O

Awesome stuff! Will test this stuff out when I get some free time.

I think you might want to create a script using gscript..

My App's facebook page is now up. I could use suggestions, feedbacks on the app name/caption and the spalsh screen. Also don't forget to like the page.
