^^ but there is one more thing that confuses me still about the correlation between netflix and bootloader lockdown. Nexus 1, G2 etc have got netflix support as well but without any bootloader lockdown (and without a firmware update as well).

Why bother with regional issues or policies? It makes their job easier if they decide to lock and encrypt all the SKU's, rather than deciding where to take these measures or not.

whatever their reason is, it's a mistake.

Hmmm..maybe. But the few (let's say 1%) people they will alienate can probably find some other way to run the Netflix app. It's already running on the Droid X.

@ Shantz..maybe Google really doesn't care but according to that Nilay article on Skyhook lawsuit, Google pretty much dictates what the device should be if the OEM wishes to include Google apps. And Google (let's say Android division) presumably knows that these OEMs have contracts with the carriers which require those apps to be present.

So apparently the Android team does take extra initiatives when it comes to being involved in device design etc.

^^ Yup.. Google takes a lot of steps to control OEM actions but afaik as far as device lockdown is concerned, it isn't being dictated by Google.. Especially when you have SE going the complete opposite way and supporting it officially for all their devices..and again netflix<->lockdown theory has holes because of the N1 and G2 having the netflix app as well..

Yeah. Plus it runs on mobile devices like the iPod touch which have no bootloaders. Funny.

Edit: or maybe since the dollar is down they dont want these devices undercutting ones in Europe. Farfetched I know :P

I was in ATT store today and had a chance to play with bunch of android phones. Had to literally wait for a while to try out each one of them. WP7 and iP had no queues, no waiting period. :giggle:. Infact WP7 section was deserted and it was near the restrooms.

So I came across this HTC phone and instantly fell in love with it. Has anyone tried this one? Not that I am gonna buy this one, but HTC earned my respect right then and there.

so why do they need to lock the bootloaders of the handsets sold outside america? netflix doesn't work anywhere else, so lock the american specific branded handsets and leave the others alone.

Netflix made their intentions of expanding globally very clear earlier this year.

True. Nothing's clear as of now. But if one does try to look for a reason as to why HTC has started encrypting their boot and recovery partitions, Netflix's demands could be one of them..

iOS devices have their own "bootloader" mode, it's called DFU mode. If you realize, to do a restore you need to go into DFU mode, to do a jailbreak you need to go into DFU mode as well.

A cousin of mine has the same phone, she's pretty happy with it. I asked her if she's facing any problems or short battery life, she says she gets great battery life. So I suppose it's a decent device..

A bootloader is a necessity for almost all devices that run any sort of code. All iDevices for sure have bootloaders..

No i didnt miss anything. Thi photo is on the internet in a variety of avatars. Some of our resident phandroids hav this image as their display pic. :-/.. How hard they try to prove their allegiance as though they getting anything out of it

But good job trying to infer whatever you want to suit your conclusion. I'm jus following on what you said in the previous post.

Anyway, back on track.

@Ayush, try tapatalk.

Al though I have some doubt with it.

@Superfrag since i know u use it, is there any way by which I can get the view new posts thing on tapatalk. Thing is, tapatalk shows a different/incorrect list of latest posts and on the web browser, view newest posts shows the correct list of recently update threads. And it messe up with the read unread threads sometimes.

Ok. My bad. Technical imbecile. :wallbash:

I was confusing bootloader with modem firmware.

Nice picture. Opps it misses a caption "Eating the competition". Lol. Jokes on you buddy.

Haha. Can't digest. :P

try tapatalk.

If Tapatalk had a multi-quote option I'd use it much more often. There really is no functionality that is there in Tapatalk and not in the mobile web version of IVG that would make me use it.
