Its weird how Samsung does this. But then again, most people wouldn't even know or bother to know what processor is under the. At the end of the day, there has to be a good reason why they used this SoC

Supply v/s Demand..GS2 has been selling awesomely well.. I think their GS2 demand outran exynos supply..

Also call sulekha and haggle them..

I didnt buy this from Sulekha. I bought it locally. I am going to Samsung store this weekend and haggle them.

Yeah, but its not a good thing if one wants to root and install custom ROMs. Many people have bricked their S2s. The I9100 is completely stopped in Malaysia, China etc.

They are not able to meet the demand of Exynos.

^^ Is the serial number/IMEI on box matching that on phone? If not, then it might be a case of selling used product. If yes, then you should be able to take it to Samsung saying phone model is different than what is on box

I will check it out. But he opened the sealed pack in front of me and gave me the phone.

I'm sorry for what happened to you dude but I cant help but at your meltdown.

Yeah, even I find it funny. Lets see how this ends up. I am gonna create quite a sh*tstorm over this. Might lodge a case at Consumer Court. Anyone has any experience?

^Check in About Phone section in Settings. IIRC you are having Gingerbread 2.3.3, so it must be I9100 and not G. The G are the new phones manufactured in October 2011 and later. They ship with 2.3.4 or 2.3.5.

If its non G then it has mali 400 on Exonys. No need to worry. Also, I9100 in India is stuck on 2.3.3. It cant be upgraded to 2.3.4 via KIES or anything. It just doesn't connect to servers via phone when checked for upgrade.

And the el cheapo Galaxy Y is shipping with 2.3.6 now

So how many are the unfortunate S2 I9100G owners? The store from where I bought the phone will give the stock reply that this is what Samsung is giving and its not their fault. I am thinking of going to Samsung Center directly.

:( Any other ways? The very last option is to sell off this piece to some clueless dude and get a new one.

The problem is that they're not specifying the GPU model or processor model on the box (are they?) or saying this is the exact specification you'll get. They're only saying you'll get a Galaxy S2 that has a processor running at so-in-so clock rate (or do they even mention that much?). This is similar to what Apple are doing with their Toshiba vs Samsung SSD drive thing on the Macbook Airs. The Samsung Drive is twice as fast but you'll not know what is in the notebook until you benchmark it or check the system hardware info in the "About this Mac" section. To do that of course you'll have to buy it and open it. Apple though lets you replace your notebook with a new piece endlessly within the first 14 days (just dislodge a key or something on the laptop if you got it couriered and go complain to the nearest Apple store and you can try your luck multiple times till you get a Samsung SSD one). Sad thing is you MAY end up with the same Toshiba one (which most non-geeky users wouldn't care about) and you can't really take them to court about it. The case with you is similar though here it primarily affects your GPU, though the more restrictive effect I'd be concerned with is the inability to switch ROMs real quick. I doubt Samsung is as flexible with their replacement-for-no-frickin'-reason policy as Apple is.

On a side note, are all new Galaxy S2 pieces in stores now (after Oct 2011) non-Exynos versions? Then it makes no sense anymore to go with the S2, you might as well get a Galaxy Nexus with ICS on it since the only relatively behind-the-bleeding-edge portion of the G-Nex I noted was the GPU (an SGX540) if you were interested in gaming.
