I don't know about you guys. I never bothered about brand value or high end phones. I actually bought my phone rather unwillingly, just out of necessity. I use it everyday for its several functionalities which just wouldn't be possible in normal phones. That said, I see a lot of the people these days barely use a smart phone, or rather don't know what's what and own one just to show off. I read this funny statement on FB: "We live in an age of Smart phones and Dumb people." True in this case

^^ the thing is that, not all of us need smart phones....maybe if I'm some guy who needs to check email on the go, need to be reminded constantly of appointments, travel often, check stock prices every now and then etc, yes - smart phone is handy. For someone, who spends excess of 12 hours in office every day and goes home, and travels once in a blue moon, smartphone is well, a nice toy to have around, but not really that useful.

Just my opinion though.

Dont worry. There is no need for buyers' regret. Nowadays every phone is a smartphone except the lowest rungs of phones.

And its fine to have a high end phone. Sometimes, its not the number of features that are important, but its how it does some things better. A high end phone will do video playback much better, or will be more snappier and browsing will be much faster than a cheaper smartphone. U may be able to do all these in a 12k android phone too, but there will be a marked difference in the experience and performance.

It's better to go for a high end phone, because mobile technology is evolving at a rapid rate. So whatever you have currently will get outdated in 6 months or so. I do agree that a 10k phone is fine for someone who only requires a phone for calls and SMS, etc.

In India, they're mostly a status symbol. It also depends on the type of work you do and your interests though.

Good points. I do agree that S2 is quite a performer, and whenever I browse, I get excellent speeds (mostly because of the n/w here as well), and the video playback is smooth, so is the camera and video recording. Buyers regret - well I'm built that way, hard to change myself now :P I thought my ipad would meet the same fate, but everyone in my family uses it round the clock, so money well spent !

@karoo, its not about status. Its just the attraction of a new shiny gadget that makes me buy stuff :P

I respect your opinion mate. I just stated mine.

So, now 10-12k is cheap these days? Conisiderably, yes. But for the calls/SMS/basic browsing purposes, there are pretty good sub 5k phones as well :|

That is a very old article published in Feb 2011 based on the hardware shown at MWC 2011.

Check out the SGS 2 review on the same site published in September 2011
