and to the people who think that AMOLED < LCD 2 take a look at this picture below

the flowers in the middle tell all the story, the loss of detail due to lower contrast on the LCD is pretty evident in almost all the flowerss

Maybe it's just me but the S3/Note look much better than the One X in those comparison shots. Even the S2 looks better than HOX in some cases.

Last longer? What is the life of a normal AMOLED screen, non pentile? 10 years? So that life thing is a crock of PR sh*t.

Last longer as in after a while, the intensity of the colors decreases -- a well known fact. It is much more prominent in LCD displays (according to Samsung -- not me).

And Samsung recently mentioned Pen tile displays last longer. Hence the use of such a unit in the S3.

PR stuffy only, the non pentile is supposed to last like 2-3 years before the degradation begins, it's not like that it becomes unusable, it is just that it will not be the same as it was day one, or so is what Samsung told

Pen tile on N1 is easily visible. On the Note it is more difficult to spot.Higher dpi displays can go with Pen tile, it is virtually indistinguishable at normal handheld viewing distances.

correct it is all bout the ppi, at the ppi of 306 (S3) you cannot even see the pixels, forget the sub-pixels :giggle:

Dude Avkash WTF are you doing man? Have you even used One X or Note? If not, why are you posting perfectly credible sources with valid points and screenshot proofs? Unless you have used the devices, all your points are moot. :P

AMOLED is definitely better than LCD for contrast ratios and color vibrancy. However, you do sacrifice a significant degree of color accuracy.

As for the Pentile matrix, it's a moot point on high dpi displays. However, the actual quality of Samsung's pentile S-AMOLED displays is another question altogether. Color banding, color bleeding, color blotching, lack of uniformity, etc. are bigger problems than any perceived matrix. In comparison, Samsung's S-AMOLED PLUS [RGB matrix] displays are far superior in those aspects. The much bigger 7.7 inch S-AMOLED Plus screen on the Tab 7.7 is fantastic is comparison to the 5.3 inch Pentile display on the Note despite having the same resolution.

Those are mainly software calibration issues. Like I had said earlier, please refer to Supercurio's thread on XDA. Also, try CM9/AOSP/AOKP on the Note and you'll know what I mean. There is minimal to no banding at all on apps which showed horrendous banding on Gingerbread.

If anything, you should blame Samsung for calibrating the devices wrong rather than blaming the display itself.

Got myself Note, so what you guys suggest? Samsung's official ICS or custom?

I am surely gonna miss MIUI. :|

You can try my MIUI v4 ROM. :P

Also, since you've just gotten the phone, I'd suggest the Official ICS -- mainly, because of the S Pen functionality. Try out the S Note app (not S Memo) -- absolutely brilliant! I should warn you though that there have been cases of bricks on the official ICS (LPY CF-Root Kernel to be exact). I haven't faced any issues thus far but still. If you wanna play it safe then CM9/MIUI are your best bets since they use safe Kernels.

Guys. I noticed that my Note is showing RAM as 800 mb and not 1GB, i am having a doubt that cpu isnt proper as well. How can i be sure about it?

It doesnt say exynos anywhere in android info, GPU is correctly shown as Mali-400.

You got the Note G version. :happydance:

Just kidding. Check model number, if it shows N7000, all is well. Else there is a cheaper Note, IIRC model number is I717

Congrats on the Note.

If you like Vanilla ICS, then anything from CM9 to Stunner would do. If you want proper S-Pen functionality, then any of the stock ROMs would be good enough. I'm presently on Criskelo's ICS LPY, and it is working fine, smooth and no hassles.

But be very careful while flashing latest stock ICS based ROMs, especially with regards to the kernel.
