Babyzelda
Having never read a single word / article / forum on Rooting, could someone suggest whats the best ROM for Galaxy S3? Am seriously irritated with the lag on the phone, did everything possible but it still is the same, worst is it lags while typing, Any suggestions? Am not so much into the eye candy stuff, don't care about widgets etc, just needs to work well and smooth. P.S : Did the whole factory reset etc but the lag is still the same! Babyzelda
Mate, Mine is the International Version, this is really weird I have the dual core s3 and it works so brilliantly, which s3 do you have? International version? I'll direct you to the correct XDA forum. Okami, Thanks a lot for all the help really, Apps mostly used are facebook (For our work) , email, and a few travel apps but I don't think any of them would cause the issue? But still am attaching the Battery Stats, (Have'nt used the phone since almost a month out of frustration, Just recharged it and started it again for a second go, or else gonna just sell it) I was crazy about Blackberry, Always scared of moving to touch screens assuming I could not type well, but one fine day just went and got the S3 and truly speaking have never read much on how to make it better / smoother) Earlier had the Samsung launcher , then moved to Nova, Using the Stock Samsung Keyboard, (It sucks) What apps do you use? What launcher? What keyboard? I'm just trying to find the source of your lag. And can you post a screenie of your battery stats?
k@rt!K
Samsung Galaxy S III I9300 lagging, slow charging from stock charger, led on while charging but no response on pressing home or power button early signs of indication towards "sudden death" :angry:/> **Ultimate GS3 sudden death thread** http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993044
ThE JuGgErNaUT
yea, charging is funny. sometimes it charges fully superfast, sometimes not. & noticed that the charging is super slow ( & actually lasts less, seems weird man) with the stock supplied charger than when charged with the new long cord one i bought from the market or the stock one we got with my mothers alternate 5K phone anyway, starts acting funny at times. 1. the keypad display gets weird sometimes after disconnecting a call. 2. image flickering at times I though maybe had a virus. bought kaspersky from the play store. no virus found. & problem still occurs from time to time. also had noticed that the penultimate firmware update had issues. the latest update had fixed these. The Wolfy among us
Juggie, it comes with the default android keyboard and the samsung keyboard. . I am not sure if swype is also installed. Swift key is definitely not installed. Also, Are you on stock rom or have you rooted? Sammy stock roms are POS. root it, and install CM10, or any other, other than stock.

The Wolfy among us
oh cool. have u tried swiftkey? better? on stock rom, haven't rooted as, well embarressed, first android phone & honestly speaking have no clue as to why/what rooting does/ advantages/ etc I use swift key only. Its literally bug free and it's pretty fast to popup. And there is no lag when typing. Try the free version and see if you like it. But there are people here who say swype is better. But i never got the hang of swiping to type. And as far as rooting is concerned... See the stock phone which you buy comes with android with a lot of Samsung stuff built in to it. It's a highly customized Android OS. And along with a lot of features, they put in a lot of junk too. The android OS which google gives out is just 200 mb, but when Samsung is done with it, it becomes 700 mb thereabouts. So it's bound to slow down the phone. And anyways most of the stuff Samsung gives is eye candy and nice to have features which you will hardly use everyday.... So you root the phone, which gives you the freedom to change roms whenever you want. Which is called flashing of ROMs. Now we come to the type of ROMs other than the Stock samsung roms. First is AOSP/AOKP Roms. These are pure pure pure Android roms which resemble the base OS given out by Google. Best to have, but a few stuff like camera etc may not work. Then there is CM 10 (Cyanogenmod). This is built from the pure android roms, but are customized by the group of fellows called Cyanogenmod. They try to keep the OS looking as pure as possible, but they add in their own app, customizations etc. And they do it pretty well. My vote goes for these roms. Then there are Samsung roms, which are taken by developers and they filter out all the unnecessary stuff. Faster than the stock roms, but still is a Samsung Rom. Examples, CODEC rom, Omega etc. A good starting point would be to read the XDA wiki on the S3 here

Trust me you'll know when to root your phone. Once you know when to root. It won't take much time to know everything about it. If your phone is new then enjoy stock rom as its your first android phone for few months. When you get bored then go for it. Installing ROM is the way to go CM9.1 and CM10 is waiting for you. And agree, touchwiz sucks.
avkash
Nothing new. Tons of folks at work got the S3 and have similar issues. Plus usage is more or less the same as what Babyzelda mentioned. just wanted this reply. Android as an OS does lag. It does. It needs frequent maintenance. I do not know why Android fans shy way from this fact.
