I am talking as a collective, of all SAMSUNG devices (Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Y series, Galaxy S Advance). Most devices are still smooth finish glossy plastics.

SIII is piano-plastic back. =|

^^ Still I spoke about the home button being a bad aspect, never liked the feel of that on the SAMSUNG devices.

Everyone has moved onto capacitive buttons, feather-touch systems.

And a matte finish is much better from rigidity poin of view as well because of the increased grip it has, so less chances of an accidental drop.

So what if it has a piano finish for Christ's sakes!

Do you own an S3, or is your usage only the random feel up of demo devices at Samsung's stores?

Actually I like the home button, adds a lot of character to its looks.

Also it is not finger print prone but very prone to scratching, but then iphone has two glass surfaces, though I'll admit Samsung could have done a better job in the build quality, its by no means bad or cheap.

You don't sell 35mil phones like that.

Plenty of colleagues have it and I envy the hardware inside, it just doesn't feel good to hold. PERIOD.

And I would prefer SAMSUNG improves in that department, because they have done this -- SAMSUNG Galaxy Rugby.

Lets just agree that our aesthetic sensibilities differ. Cheers! :cheers:/>/>

^^ Sensitive to damage, that is what I am saying and the problem is the material used will high-light the damage.

You don't do a lot of things if you are taking that into account. It has community support, flagship status what else do you need. And not Apple.

Also matte=/=rubber finish, there is no improvement in gripping

You would be surprised to hold the XPERIA go then, might hate it to start with but will catch on.

Where did Samsung rugby come into the discussion o.O

Because I wanted to dispel the thought that SAMSUNG = Cheap plastic (as Apple-users trumpet and I am sounding like) and the fact that if the company can come up with a tough device why not use similar sensibilities in other fields.

Maybe because, most people are ok with it ? Most people use phone cases and it doesn't bother them ?

These cheap tablets are a bad idea for most folks on this forum. They "seem" to be value for money at first but soon turn into hair tearing experience. Instead of buying this, get a used/refurbished good tablet or wait a bit, save more and buy a new good tablet.

Why are they bad? Genuinely curious. I assume they get no support at xda but other than that surely they work as advertised?

They work almost as advertised. That's why I didn't say "bad" but "bad for most ppl on this forum" who are slightly more tech inclined than regular ppl. A lot of folks initially think that these tabs are good enough for a bit of web browsing and videos watching and otherwise they have their laptops/PCs anyways and first uses are ok but then they see that browsing becomes a chore with slow page loads, opening more than a few pages brings it down to its knees, video playback is glitchy, lot os small games and apps don't work or are glitchy, general software is broken and even community support is in terms of unofficial ports which, while better than official sw, are still broken. Official updates are none to speak of and unofficial updates stop after a while when the few devs working on them move on to the new kid on the block..
