_Hellsboy_
Yes you need to be rooted, and there is no such thing as unrooted, your flash counter has already changed and officially your phone is out of warranty now. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943592 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656 Read what you are doing, always Exactly. Going back to Stock wont bring back your warranty just in case that's what you mean..
dante77
I thought warranty becomes valid after someone unroot properly their device? Hmmmm....
AtheK
depends, in HTC if you root you have to unlock the bootloader, and if you want to unroot you have to lock the bootloader, but in this case it says Bootloader relocked and not unlocked. Warranty can be denied in such case, and nothing you can do.
Sackboy
In Samsung there is a flash counter, which trips every time you flash, most recoveries freeze that counter but too late, you can see it in the download menu, mine is stuck at

I know, it's called Triangle Away. But it doesn't work always and it's recommended that you freeze it before flashing.

All this can be be through sony's official site and I think you get your warranty back after locking bootloader again, I read it somewhere (perhaps in Sony's site) dunno where. Can't say anything for sure though.

I looked it up for a friend who has a Neo V
dante77
You mean I can't relock it using sony's website well, my warranty is long gone so I don't need to worry

Have done (and checked) this 3-4 times.

Big Boss
There was even an app called Triangle Away made my chainfire on Play Store. It worked on ICS to remove that counter.

Rooting should be enough along with some tinkering.. Edit: Check this if it works for you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677261 You do need to root the phone before hand by using superoneclick or something... Usually I don't recomment using these one click methods as they can cause unknown issues as well but since you are completely new to Android (and I think linux), I guess you'd have to go the one click route. spindoctor
Why would you even need to root for tethering? Just go to your setting menu and enable it. Am I missing something here?
dylanjosh
^ I think only Samsung has that. (could be badly mistaken though)
