godspeed4476
Why would you even need to root for tethering? Just go to your setting menu and enable it. Am I missing something here? AT&T bastards lock the tethering option
godspeed4476
Pretty sure you don't need to do all that just to enable tethering.. Rooting should be enough along with some tinkering.. Edit: Check this if it works for you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677261 You do need to root the phone before hand by using superoneclick or something... Usually I don't recomment using these one click methods as they can cause unknown issues as well but since you are completely new to Android (and I think linux), I guess you'd have to go the one click route. Repped. Many thanks for the link buddy, checking it right now. Edit: It says your phone must be rooted and should have android sdk installed to unlock the tethering Edited February 2, 2013 by godspeed4476
Shantz
Why would you even need to root for tethering? Just go to your setting menu and enable it. Am I missing something here? Many carriers in US disable tethering or "lock" it to force customers into buying special tethering data plans. Repped. Many thanks for the link buddy, checking it right now. Edit: It says your phone must be rooted and should have android sdk installed to unlock the tethering Check here for rooting options depending on your device type and firmware version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
sameuun
Android noob here, i asked for suggestions n Erodov to make my wifi tethering on At&t htc one x start working. one of the members suggested the following steps, Unlock bootloader Install recovery Flash ROM Flash Kernal I have no idea how to perform any of these steps, searching for it online is only exposing me to some technical jargons, can any 1 give me a noob friendly way to do it buy this software https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=og.android.tether&hl=en and u r ready to teather no root needed
sathyabhat
After long last, rooted my Nexus4. I did the mistake of not unlocking the bootloader soon as I got my phone and as days passed by, I had more and more data filling in delaying it more Was waiting for Carbon - tried it out & it failed in creating a backup. Might have to do something with me setting a password for my desktop backups. So I went the adb route of taking a full backup - like so: adb backup -apk -shared -all -f <filename> Next, unlocked the bootloader, and installed SuperSU. ATM I'm restoring the backup created using above - let's see how much/what gets restored
Shantz
buy this software https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=og.android.tether&hl=en and u r ready to teather no root needed It says in that app's description itself that it needs root. The no-root-needed alternative mentioned there (opengarden) tethers over bluetooth and not wifi which has it's own limitations (limited by distance and speed) and also needs the same app to be installed on all devices which need access. dante77
Well that sucks. All the carriers here provide teathering and it also works wonderfully. Also, its in every android phone and not just in samsung phones.

Your s3 must be in warranty, make sure you don't pay anything. Keep us posted on this. I just gave the phone to SC this evening. They acted nicely, took the phone and gave me a slip. THey said if it's a S/W issue (how can they even check if the phone is not booting up) it'll take 1-2 days, otherwise they'll replace the Motherboard which will take 3-4 days. I just hope they're outta stock on 16gb MBs and replace with 32 GB one (has happened to few ppl) :-D
spindoctor
Since some folks *cough*Alwani*cough* are obsessed with the pie menu on the PA rom, figured this might be handy. You can enable the pie without flashing a new rom. Edited February 2, 2013 by spindoctor
