Keep your phat, its not really worth the deal as you would be paying around 9-10k for the upgrade anyway, which is the same as replacement cost. Just confirm the replacement policy if you want. Lets see, if he keeps the 40 gb phat with him and in case it ylods then he would only have to spend 6-6.5k on a replacement. (10k-price of additional stuff). Now this is in the less likely case of his ps3 getting ylod. With buying a slim he is paying 6k extra directly. I fail to see the logic behind paying 6k to avoid the risk of having to pay 6.5k in a rare occurrence. The HDD is a bonus though if he needs it. Only thing it does better than phat is take less space and blend in with the surrounding so no would notice how hideous it looks. Its noisier than phat and it gets hot pretty fast.
