Choron ka raja
Hey guys, I am currently using Airtel connection sharing it with 2 other flatmates. But its causing me a lot of trouble, as other guys just keep using torrents, and I am unable to use XBL at all. And if talk to them, they tell me they are not using torrents, even though I can check it in the router log. Now, the best thing to do is I guess to block the torrents and every other application except TCP. I found a stupid "application filter" in Router setup, but that just does nothing. So, I worked out the final option, and that will be to block all the ports except 80 and 22222 (the one I use for XBL). But sadly if I create a rule for that, it just gets deleted somehow, even when I am the only one who has the password to the router. Don't know what to do. This is just driving me nuts. Help please..........
Bulovski
How about putting in a MAC filter which will only allow you to use the router?
Shantz
How about putting in a MAC filter which will only allow you to use the router? that will not help, because first thing is that MAC filters can be broken easily and second he wants his friends to use the net, just not torrents... jeetz, if ur router is not storing the firewall rules, it would be difficult to do anything.. btw can you try doing it through telnet instead of web interface? maybe there is a bug in the web interface.. just telnet to your router's ip and use ur username/pwd to login. Then use "iptables" command to set the rules.. you can read about the command online..

Choron ka raja
How about putting in a MAC filter which will only allow you to use the router? Nah man, that won't do. I tried filtering Mac address for everything, and then allowing all Mac addresses to use port 80. But sadly that didn't worked. Something is really screwed up with that router, man. Bulovski
There's an URL filter - put in the list of the most popular trackers and they will be blocked. That way even if they use torrents it will not completely screw up your bandwidth.
Choron ka raja
k, got it done through command line. Atleast now, it saves the rules I have created. Thnx a lot guys. Although, I am planning to get my personal connection now.. That would be better, I guess.
Shantz
^^good.. i thought of the command line because the very first router airtel used when they started the broadband business (the yozan web distributor II) had the same bug that it didn't used to save things from web interface but did through command line
