L33TWiZaRd
Ask him to change his power source firstand if he has anything attached to the usb ports...remove them and the finally use the av cable....not the hdmi and see if the ps3 turns on most probably a hardware failure unless it is something external like a bad power source..... does the light go to yellow? so in standby mode the light is red ....try the things mentioned there and post back

L33TWiZaRd
And i'm kinda leaning towards a hardware failure other wise known/called as the YLOD or the RLOD in the PS3. Best case scenario it starts working on it's own (I doubt that would happen) And if you are in warranty then go and get it changed asap....they will give you a new 120gb slim, in all likelihood with 1 year warranty on it
anish81
i did change the power source, reset HDD, nothing happens. I don't have the TV to try out the AV connector. I use my monitor for both my PS3 and TV tuner. I use HDMI to DVi cable. can u guys tell how can i back up the data in my HDD now. Also how many days generally sony people take to replace PS3?? Thanks anyways for ur response Note: forgot to mention that when going from green state to flashing red state, it changes to yellow, for a very brief period. L33TWiZaRd
Backing up data? .....just google for it and there are tons of guides.... You would need an external hdd....formatted as fat32 file system. Sony takes anywhere between 5 days to 30 days to replace a console. Depends from city to city and one service center to the other. So the ideal duration should be anything under 10 days. Cheers

I was suspecting dead PSU cause it happened after power outage. Any place where I can get the PSU replace? I'd love to go back to good old phat, I hate this cheap peace of plastic they call Slim. Any place where I can get the PSU replace? I'd love to go back to good old phat, I hate this cheap peace of plastic they call Slim. It is a YLOD. Before the red lights flash, between green and red, it briefly goes to yellow. That's the YLOD. I too have PS3 lying around with a YLOD and my KZ2 game disc. peace
L33TWiZaRd
Same as sam....peeps read my posts to the end in any case...he has warranty...simply get it replaced.... why sit and diagnose as to what is the problem ? so if the light goes from solid red >> green >> flashing red then it is an YLOD or RLOD....whatever u wanna call it so do u get the green light anish? KonfuSed
Hey Anish, did you just updated the firmware or anything else also had happened? How you've updated the firmware(i.e. directly over the net, USB etc?). If USB from where have you downloaded the firmware? I was thinking of updating my firmware but now I'm worried after seeing your ordeal. And have you talked to Sony service? what is their response? _KaRaN_
Note: forgot to mention that when going from green state to flashing red state, it changes to yellow, for a very brief period. its certainly a YLOD.. don't waste time, go get it replaced btw, my new phat 80 GB (latest model) gets temporary YLOD sometimes due to power cuts.. n re-plug in the power cable n it goes fine .. but asyou've already tried reconnecting the power cable, its definitely a permanent ylod .. jus get it replaced.. n ul hav the extended warranty in this case.. ur still lucky.. i paid 50% f the MRP n still got no warranty.. sony didnt even reply to Sam's mail bout this pricks
anish81
Well frnds, today submitted my brain-dead PS3 to sony service center, with the help of dear friend playstation aka Mohit. Those f**kers were saying it will take nearly a month to get replacement. After some arguments they have agreed to let me know the replacement status after 10 days!!!! They are not willing to hand me over a new slim 120GB as replacement, actually they are looking for a 80GB PHAT one for replacement, as per their statement. It sucks though let's see what happens.... @daya..... no chance of getting extended warranty, i have already spoken about that to the Service center lady and she stated it clearly.........NO EXTENDED WARRANTY @konfused..... man 3.3 is a mandatory update. u have to update that otherwise u will not be able to sign in to PSN. i updated my console through USB drive. Update was successful n my console was running fine there after.

BTW, have you done the upgrade through US site? I remember seeing a disclaimer that the firmware download from their site is specifically for North American PS3's. I don't know if that mean anything though. EDIT : Guess what.. My PS3 is also bricked it seems. It did the upgrade and after that it rebooted and then it just got stuck. No Yellow or red light though. But it's frozen with the startup screen without the Xcross bar. Even the controller is not switching on. But the drive is working(i.e. discs are coming out or going in if I press the eject button) Another EDIT: It's working now. Had to keep the I/O button pressed and it switched off. Restarted again and it told that it was not properly shutdown last time. I restarted it again and now it's working fine.
