playstation
Rent 15 Movies That Influenced Metal Gear SolidThat's Hideo Kojima. He makes Metal Gear Solid games and really likes movies — that last part is hard to believe, we know. Kojima has teamed up with video rental shop Tsutaya and wants to recommend 15 flicks that influenced the Metal Gear Solid series. The campaign is taking place at Tsutayas in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka and Sapporo as well as though Tsutaya Online. There's also a giveaway. Here is Kojima's list of 15 motion pictures that have influenced MGS: The Guns of Navarone The Great Escape Goldfinger 2001 Planet of the Apes The Deer Hunter Dawn of the Dead Full Metal Jacket Die Hard Heat Predator Black Hawk Down Children of Men The Bourne Identity Casino Royale Why these movies? Kojima explains on the Tsutaya Online site how each of these influenced MGS. Here's a sample: • The game's basic "infiltration mission" concept is from The Guns of Navarone. • Otacon's real name ("Hal") is a nod to 2001: A Space Odyssey. • Snake's bandana is from Deer Hunter — not Rambo. • Planet of the Apes influenced MGS in that it showed how a message for society could be placed in an entertaining work. • MGS4's ocotocamo was inspired by Predator. • The mood and the lighting of MGS4's Middle Eastern strife was inspired by Black Hawk Down. •The biggest influence on Metal Gear is the 007 series — especially Sean Connery's Bond. MGS4 Cinema [TSUTAYA via Famitsu]source this is old news but i think it was not posted here...so here it is... out of this list I have seen deer hunter-Awesome movie must see for everyone...must see for everyone... also seen predator, casino royale...not seen others also for avid book reader. Some Books That Influenced Metal Gear Solid When Metal Gear Solid 4 was released, multi-media store Tsutaya held a promotion for 15 movies that influenced MGS. For Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, it's not about movies, but books. Publisher Hayakawa Shobu is kicking off "The Hayakawa Shobu Books That Made Hideo Kojima Fair" by fitting six of its titles that have influenced Kojima with a Peace Walker slip cover. Those titles are: Shadow 81 by Lucien Nahum, High Citadel by Desmond Bagley, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold by John le Carre, Duck Call by Inami Itsuva, The Door into Summer by Robert A. Heinlein and Hothouse by Brian Aldiss. All but Duck Call are originally English-language books. source
Aftrunner
Ugh there are so many reasons to see most of the films on that list. MGS should never be one of them. Its like saying Zinda is a reason to watch Oldboy.

DO NOT google for this movie. You WILL BE spoiled. Also, pretty much pointless. Vague references do not count as influences. I can easily say The Big Bang Theory is influenced by every popular sci-fi franchise. Ugh there are so many reasons to see most of the films on that list. MGS should never be one of them. Its like saying Zinda is a reason to watch Oldboy. Q f**king T

CarbonCore
Tactical Espionage Action. Lol different words, for different sections of the game . It is still tactical during normal gameplay (or not, based on how player likes to play it) And the list is fail without mentioning Escape from New York, thats from where Snake got his name, and eyepatch. Aftrunner
I know. When it does stealth its pretty good. Better than the new SC anyway.

Noctis
And the list is fail without mentioning Escape from New York, thats from where Snake got his name, and eyepatch. Was going to post the exact same thing here, can't stress that enough. Maybe Kojima didn't mention it because the characters personality and appearance was close to a rip off. Also proof enough In Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty Snake actually uses the alias "Pliskin" to hide his real identity during the game. If Snake ever decides to go gung ho...ohwaitamin /pops in MGS4 The list of movies are so generic and popular it can apply to many things. It's just Kojima trying to be mysterious. Children of Men - a must read book.
