Need help with xbox 360 power supply

HI,

I recently brought my xbox 360 from canada to india. i did know that the power supply on the xbox needed a converter and so i bought a 220 to 110 V voltage converter from the local electronic store for 500 rupees. And when i plugged the xbox through the converter, the damn thing did not work. it gave a popping sound and the fuse in my house tripped. Now i know that the power supply brick has an internal protection circuit and that my xbox is not damaged. now i am not sure if my power brick is damaged. is there any way of checking it without connecting it to the xbox.

 

Now based on this I have two options

1- Get a new 220V power brick and use it with my US xbox. Here I am not sure if I can use a 220V brick on a us xbox

2- Get a step down transformer(not a converter, but a trnasformer with 500W rating) and hope that my power brick works with it and if not get a new US power brick.

 

I would really appreciate it anyone can help me sort this sh*t out!!
