bharaths Posted May 27, 2010 Report Share Posted May 27, 2010 Hi guys, last week my fat PS3 60GB bricked while gaming god of war 3. After that it is not recognizing blu ray disks. All this happened due to the software update 3.15. So i made a online complaint. Sony guy called me and asked to update to 3.30, if the problem persists he asked me to take it to service center. After updating also the blu ray disks were not recognized. So i took it to Ashok Nagar sony service center. There i was shocked the hear that there is no component support for servicing ps3. The guy there said if it was under warranty they will replace with a new one. But mine is 3 years old. So he asked me to exchange it for the new one in any sony showrooms in city. So i took it to Anna Nagar sony world where i bought my PS3. There they said that there is no exchange scheme available for PS3 and they can take it for just Rs.2500. I cant digest this at all, having spent Rs.40000 what i get is a micro amount for exchange. Instead i can throw it for free on their face. My question is Is there any other way to get my PS3 replaced? I seen in this forum that we can get a new PS3 for 10k if its out of warranty, if so means where and how can i get that in chennai? However the disease your ps3 is suffering from is called a Spin Of Death(SOD) and the lens has worn out, you could try changing the BD lens that would come around 3-4k AFAIK Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Since you have 60gb i suppose that must be the launch model. The 50% replacement thing is valid only to 1yr after your warranty gets over, after that for the 2nd year its 25% and after that nothing.
