Thanks mate you rock :nono: . I just ran the win7 upgrade advisor and I was surprised when I found that I could run 64 bit win 7 as well, because My lappy came with the default 32 bit windows vista as far as I know 64 bit is much faster than 32 bit yes? I have 3GB of RAM,would a 64bit win ultimate be better or 32bit?

Run Win 7 32 bit bro.. 64 bit is useful only if you have >3GB installed.. And as mentioned earlier, finding 64 bit drivers is PITA.

Also check PM again. :happydance:

Didn't you formatted your hard-drive completely?? If yes, you wouldn't have got that partition in first place.

As of now, its just the old installation, so, if you are sure, you backed up everything you needed, go ahead and delete the folder. If not, backup your data, hopefully most of that will still be untouched. Oh, before accessing that folder, run AV scan first, to be sure that your new installation don't get corrupted.

Once you have deleted the folder, and once you have your full HDD space with you, use "Computer Management" for extending your partition and creating a new one. Use that new partition for your data, and keep the Windows 7 partition totally separate. That way, next time, you will not have any problem with OS installation.

I thought that a custom installation would clean up everything.Sadly I saw your post too late what I have done now is I took some inexpendable applications and programs from windows.old (a game, open office and my movie collection) and moved it to my windows7 program files.(funnily most of the applications I installed in my previous OS are working).I didnt have a proper antivirus for my previous OS so I didnt check windows.old for infections. However I am installing bitdefender right now.

Should I now format my C drive partition and then boot from my windows7 installation disk to reinstall win7? I wont have much problem with doing that really win7 installation is pretty quick .

Custom installation keeps your original file in separate folder, just in case you forgot to backup or was unable to backup, because of some issues. Also, I would suggest installing Microsoft Security Essentials, instead of bitdefender. Best thing, its the most lightweight Antivirus ever, and is still pretty solid when it comes to detecting infections, and its free.

Also just delete that old folder cuz you won't need it anymore once you have got all your data backed up.
