That's how I see Obsidian Entertainment: a clever team with great ideas, often struggling against the budget, the timeframe, or the engine.

Check out the rap sheet. As stand-ins for BioWare, the studio offered glimpses of a truly great game with KOTOR 2, but had to rush the final act. Inspired by the choice and consequence of Mass Effect when it came to the ambitious spy RPG Alpha Protocol, it created an adventure that charmed even if it didn't always convince. As for New Vegas, look between the crashes and the bugs, and you'll probably like what you see.

My Irvine expedition may be over, but my head is now jam-packed with all sorts of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Dungeon Siege III goodness. I can't spill any details yet, but rest assured there will be plenty for you to sink your teeth into next week. In addition to a set of previews, I have a total of five 20+ minute audio interviews (with Square Enix's director of business development David Hoffman, Deus Ex: Human Revolution lead writer Mary DeMarle, Dungeon Siege III project director Rich Taylor, Dungeon Siege III creative lead George Ziets, and, of course, Mr. Feargus Urquhart himself) that I'm just starting to transcribe now.

Of particular note is my nearly 30-minute Q&A with Feargus. Would you like to know exactly what Project Virginia is? Do you want the very first details about Obsidian's secret "Defiance" project? Perhaps you're interested in learning about yet another project they've taken on that utilizes a license that they simply "could not turn down"? Or maybe you'd just like to know what the future holds for the Icewind Dale series?

I suspect some of you do. Stay tuned.

May 31 it is

not anymore. the game got delayed till late june. another delay which will not save the game from being buggy as hell. at least this time they aren't going to waste over a year like they did with alpha protolol and still release a mess.

Looking forward to this more than DA2 :fear:

^^ :threatenlumber:

so gramps, how do you like them apples? turns out tyler was right about da2. as much as obsidian sucks, even they can't put out a game as bad as dragon farce 2.

anyway the reason i bumped this thread is because of some fairly interesting news. if you pre-order ds3 on steam, you will get ds1 and ds2 for free along with it. this might not seem like a huge deal, but it kind of is if one considers the fact that this is the first time ever that dungeon siege 1 and 2 will be available for digital distribution. and also, ds1 was a microsoft game, so this also marks the first time a microsoft game will be available on steam. i completely loved dungeon siege 1 and i never got to play dungeon siege 2 (which i desperately wanted to) so i probably would have pulled the trigger on this pre-order except for the fact that it's an obsidian game. not that i haven't pre-ordered their games before :fear: but yea... 50$ pre-order gets you dungeon siege 1, 2 and 3.

also making the decision tricky is that this is a steamworks game. if it got a local release here, it would be much cheaper to buy retail and link to steam. so does anyone know if it will release here? (publisher is square enix, i think their games do come here right?)

I think the game is gonna be released here.

The Steam deal sounds sweet though... and the game seems to be available for our region (it was locked a couple of weeks ago) but I don't see the offer you mentioned and no pre-order button either. :(

Oh it was definitely locked the last time I checked. I got the "oops you live in a phail region" message.

And I swear that "Add To Cart" button and the offer were missing when I posted that!

Damn you Steam!

they are putting out a demo for this game soon. ps3 and pc version on release day, and the xbox demo a week earlier (which is 1st june). i think i'm going to try the 360 demo before deciding whether to buy the game or not, although for 650 bucks it would have to be really bad to avoid it.
