These kind of things are deliberate, but a reflex... such things happens on pure instinct... Un-ethical, but not cheats!!!

That's simply crazy talk...if he reacted on instinct then it would have been his head trying to hit the ball not his hands...cause that's how a footballer's instinct works for ball that's close to head. It was completely intentional with no reflex action. Handballs on instincts/reflex action are unintentional & hence not cheating/unethical....but handballs done on intention ARE.

Its so funny to see people actually defend what he did.....I'm glad you people don't run FIFA.

What he did was good for his country....but horrible from a sportsmanship point of view.

Is that just your opinion or is it somewhere in the rulebook...i'm just curious.

Yes...unintentional handballs are not punishable/ penalized. But its upto the referee to decide what's intentional, what's deliberate & what's unintentional. (yep...there exists three kind of handballs)

when i said deliberate, i meant intentional.. and intentional handballs can and very much happen on instinct. Its not as if he planned it out before, it was an instantaneous reaction when he handled the ball. I know the ethical thing would have been to try and head the ball away, but with all the allotted 120mins gone and the ball coming str8 into his country's naked goal, his instinct got his country to the first ever WC SF (i guess?) and thats the bottom-line. Anyone in his position at that time might have done the same...

Also, I wasnt even supporting Uruguay, i was cheering for Ghana all-throughout... and i was disappointed when i saw them crash out. Yet, i defend Suarez only because he did not get away with what he did. His punishment came at a price which he is going to pay, but he gave his country one last glimmer of hope.. and perhaps that was all that they needed. Call him cheat or call him not, i really dont care because i dont run FIFA. :(

Ghana got many many chances and i favored it, but they were pretty short on experience.

Awesome played though and they dominated later.

The most edge of the seat match i've ever seen.

They can't give a goal if the ball doesn't cross the line.

I feel bad for Ghana, but they had two pretty easy chances to win it before penalties, and they threw it away.

That isn't cheating bro...

With your logic, in an NBA game when the clock is running down, if the opposition player fouls you to save time, would you call that cheating?

In the brazilvsNeds match, the ned player elbowed the ball purposely after it was a throw-in for the brazil to waste their time and he got a yellow card for it.

And why do people say that suarez wasn't wrong because he was caught and sent off.

So if someone murders someone and get's punished , then by the same logic he's not guilty.

exactly. define cheating then. any form of breaking the rules is cheating. and there are degrees of cheating - tactical/cynical fouls are small degree ones, things like these are larger. but its not all black & white, there is an element of patriotism that we wont understand...

IMO its only cheating if you get away with it. In this case, Suarez faced the worst possible consequences for his action - a penalty, a red card, and suspension from the S/F. If FIFA want to be strict, they can even extend the suspension. Like when De Rossi elbowed McBride in the face in the last WC, he got a red, and FIFA extended the suspension.

It is really really really funny that Suarez did that. I was just talking about the hypothetical situation with my brother 1 hour before the game. I was like why the f**k don't people do intentional hand balls on the line to prevent goals in the last minute? anyways it's going in, atleast with the penalty they have some chance of stopping it. We were laughing too hard when it actually happened.

Poor Ghana and Africa. Really wanted them to win. Brazil got cocky. All about Arg - Ger now, Maradonna calling linesmen Andrea Bocelli hahahahahahaha he's tooo good,

Deliberate handball & blatant handball like the one done by Suarez are two different things.

Deliberate Handball is when the player knows the balls going to hit his hand & he does nothing to prevent it eventhough he is in a position to prevent the contact...this is different from handball done by Suarez where he starts playing a game of Volleyball.

And anyone can see that what he did was not a deliberate handball or an action done in instinct.

but with all the allotted 120mins gone and the ball coming str8 into his country's naked goal, his instinct got his country to the first ever WC SF (i guess?)

Uruguay have been the world champions twice.

Well look on the bright side. All you honest folk who would never do the same thing in similar circumstances get to say "Cheaters never prosper" when Uru inevitably get their a*s handed to them by the Dutch.
