I just asked my brother (he works at NDS, who design these STBs and provide software for most of the guys across the world including tata sky & airtel in India) and he said that splitter should work for background recording as well. The only thing is that quality loss might be there depending on the quality of the splitter and hence generally 2 separate outputs from LNB itself are preferred but not mandatory. thanks bro that bolded part is what scares me..lets see what the engineers suggest.. if its possible to drag the second wire the same way in as the first i may be in luck... else splitter zindabad ! Can't afford to rewire as the wires are running inside the walls from the terrace. I think it will work tho, as I had done the wiring before I installed airtel and it worked.
