Sound output is definitely much better on HD channels even without taking the separate 5.1 output. I use 5.1 speakers but I haven't connected them to ts stb. They are connected to my TV's output (normal stereo sound which is upconverted to 5.1 by my creative ddts-100). I see a whole lot of difference even in this setup between HD and non HD channels..HD channel sound comes out much sharper/clearer and a little bit louder..

I want to drop sports pack-1 as i also got india cricket, got it for WC so dont need it anymore..

also i am having tru-choice pack so whenever i try to drop it, it says package unavailable...

you have to keep a pack for minimum 3 months before you can drop it.

Call up the Call Center, raise a stink and they should drop it for you.

buy TSHD+.it is well worth the money.PIC quality in TS is awesome dnt know about other DTH.plus the recorder is a hugely important thing in TS.so i suggest TSHD+ eyes closed.also the monthly plan is just 50rs for the hd channels.browse through TS.com and u will get all the info there.

The latest reliance big tv hd ad says they hv all 250 channels as HD. Don't knw how they manage..... or it must not be 1080i.

if you listen close enough, they say all 250 channels in "HD like" quality

upscaling = bad? :scratchchin:

upscaling is everywhere, your TV upscales the SD signal of a normal SD box to it's native resolution.

Though maybe reliance uses some sort of upscaling before transmitting which results in a some-what better quality.

upscaling isn't bad, it's just you aren't getting what is advertised, ever heard of interpolation used in cheap cameras, basically the same thing :fear: oh, and interpolation in the resolution like a 6mp interpolated image

Advanced GSAT-8 satellite was launched successfully today(21st May 2011).

The GSAT-8 will improve direct to home TV broadcast services. Weighing about 3100 Kg at lift-off, GSAT-8 is configured to carry 24 high power transponders in Ku-band and a two-channel GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation (GAGAN) payload operating in L1 and L5 bands.

The 24 Ku band transponders will augment the capacity in the Insat system. The GAGAN payload provides the Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS), through which the accuracy of the positioning information obtained from the GPS Satellite is improved by a network of ground based receivers and made available to the users in the country through the geostationary satellites.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has applauded the efforts of the Department of Space for the successful launch of advanced communication satellite GSAT-8 for improving in an elliptical geo-synchronous transfer orbit early Saturday by the Ariane-VA-202 rocket.

Responding to the news, the official Isro spokesperson claimed MCF will conduct a test to track the health parameters of the payloads by June 1 so that it will be accessed by DTH services from July 1.

So there is hope in future that we will have more HD channels and better picture quality.
