Noctis
The video playback is slow. It's sort of lagging.....as if it's slowly getting loaded and played. Can't explain any better Did you try x264 codec while transcoding?
Solitaire
Any word on whether Sony will add MKV support to the PS3?peace WTF is wrong with you man, are u some pirate or something??? Everyone knows only pirated stuff comes on MKVs yo! Why the hell would you need MKV support on the PS3? Noctis, do take a look at Sam's request No, there's been no word at all... despite that official PS blog related sight having tons of requests for the same :-(
Solitaire
Can you please explain a little more as in what to use, which options to choose etc? I've tried to convert MKVs to vob/mp4/m2ts with mkv2vob but a few MKVs are not playing perfectly on PS3. (tried playing them through pen drive and PS3 hard disk, no luck) I would like to take the opportunity to shamelessly plug the little guide (Using TSMUXER) I wrote for MKV conversion for the PS3 on my blog. http://averageindianguy.blogspot.com/2009/...kv-for-ps3.html Try that and tell if it doesn't help. mixke
Just use tsmuxer to remux the video,it works perfectly. Okays! Will give it a try Did you try x264 codec while transcoding? Under the configuration tab - Transcoding codec - x264 (It's the second last one) Video transcoding - Automatic Checked "Always Transcode DTS" and "Automatic Update" These MKVs run fine through PS3 Media Server, but I don't want to use it

Solitaire
But I honestly don't understand why any of you guys would get an MKV, then go through the trouble of Transcoding it to another format and definitely losing a bit of video quality (yes, even if it's imperceptible). I would rather just demux it, transcode the audio portion alone to make it conform to the standard for playing on a PS3 and remux it while keeping the video untouched. Sad that people can't take a few extra clicks of your mouse. It's easy as hell and that's basically all I do with TsMuxer. I do the same thing with Windows Media HD files too - http://averageindianguy.blogspot.com/2009/...-ready-for.html
dislike
This is what i did,i downloaded Dark Knight on Blu Ray(since the movie was never available in my stupid city) 11gb an x264 file type,i used mkv2vob converter to change the file type to MPEG2,no quality loss or anything as you guys are saying. It takes around 10minutes for the movie to get converted to MPEG2,and the final movie ends up @ 12GB,since i access the files on my laptop through the ps3 with the help of Tversity, the movie gets transferred wireless, takes about 4hours or more for the movie to get into the ps3! Again, you're transcoding it to MPEG-2 which is the FAST option and the lowest quality option in MKV2VOB.
Phoenix Wright
Its MPEG2 which is used for the BLu ray Movie files! Its HD for your information MPEG2 was the standard DVD format. Most Blu-rays use H264/VC-1. And yes, of course you can use MPEG2 for HD. It's just not very smart to.

Btw, if you had done it without transcoding using TsMuxer, you'd have had it as a perfectly playable file (an AVC-HD or m2ts file) within a few minutes and then you could have just transferred it to a large pen drive instead of doing it roundabout. dislike
Smart or not the movie is on either 1280X720 or 1920x500 and they look stunning when played on a decent HDTV,i infact downloaded Transformers on 1080p recently, mkv, converted to mpeg2 file type-12gigs and omg @ the quality MPEG2 was the standard DVD format.
