Play Mkv/ Bluray backup Files on ps3

FAT32 type pen drives wont accept a file larger than 4gigs,so there aint no point in using a pen drive as most of these movies are from 6gigs to 12gigs depending on the HD resolution, but mkv2vob has got a special feature in splitting the movie file into several in order to transfer it to an external HDD,but i hate splitting files, rather have it on the Portable PC and transfer it to PS3

yeah right.

Btw, if you had done it without transcoding using TsMuxer, you'd have had it as a perfectly playable file (an AVC-HD or m2ts file) within a few minutes and then you could have just transferred it to a large pen drive instead of doing it roundabout.

@ guarav -> haiving a file in mkv doesnt mean ur a pirate... in my case i have 1 hr video of .m2ts which is whopping 13 gigs and 1 hr of .mov 1080p which is 24gb... trust me no1 can afford such spaces for 1hr of video... so mkv uses amazing compression and is nearly losslesss ( may be half a megabyte of bitrate is lost ) ..so all i have now is 250 gigs covering more than 34 hrs of video in 1080p.. so ppl wud find it convenient to use compression and watch in their beloved ps3's ;) ...

It's not exactly smart to advertise the fact that you downloaded movies on a forum, but w/e

yeah, the conversion is inherently lossy. Any HD video even when transcoded will look better than a DVD or non-HD movie on a decent HDTV (not that most of us can see the loss due to conversion) and that's why you're going OMG at it.

Anyway, I leave you to your machinations.. convert or don't convert as you see fit.

OP, do tell me whether the method worked for you. ;)

But this mkv2vob converter just converts the file type from mkv to mpeg2 so that our brilliant ps3 would detect and play, thus no quality loss

Someone please tell me I did not just read this.

leave him to his ignorance.. he's not gonna accept common sense.

Tell me, do you know of any software other than mkv2vob. Did you even read about tsmuxer or try googling it or even just click on the link to the method I posted before saying mkv2vob has a special feature?

That's Gaurav... you're making me sound like a fruit. ;) Hey, I never said that. I was poking fun at Noctis who called me a pirate for asking for the same feature a week ago on some other thread (I think the MOH thread). I'm all for MKV playback on the PS3, along with a whole host of features like unlocking folder level access and bluetooth for possible file transfer.

I don't even get your thought process dude. All the things we've been trying to tell you over the course of this page and you wound up like a spring and sprung back to the same position.

Whatever keep saying that if it makes you feel any better. ;)

 same here

What type of quality loss are you talking about?

Noise in the video (blocks), narrower color spectrum, frame drops, etc etc. There is no way you can re-encode an H264 file (that has probably been through a two or more pass encode already) to a one-pass MPEG2 and get no quality loss.

You can say "BUT I SEE ZERO QUALITY LOSS" all you want, but that's only because you're blind, or just plain incapable of seeing the difference.

It's impossible, period.

You're mixing the container and format up. Mkv is just a container, the video in the container can be of any format.

;)

If you have no clue about how some things work, you shouldn't post stuff about it that could mislead people.

@Prashant, Its written in mkv2vob itself that MPEG2 is low quality. Whats the point of your argument? And IMO, the difference is fairly noticeable.

lol, I was making fun at you for saying your waiting for a cfw to play mkv files directly. Nothing wrong with asking for mkv support, although I don't see anyone hacking their ps3 for the lack of it. :samui:
