OMg does that mean u can buy an arcade for 199$ and still get customs relief? cos its less than 10k?

Well, you bumped up another year old thread :P

Anyways, to answer you question, I don't think so, coz AFAIK sometimes those custom officers will also add the shipping cost to the value of the product, thereby increasing the price and levying custom duties

I think he means he carried it with him while travelling

Of course u can carry an arcade with you while travelling. U wont be charged customs then if u pack it well and carry it on your person. I put my ps3 in a carry case n bought it when I got it from abroad. It looked like a laptop bag from outside anyway

I was wondering .. suppose I import a ps3 marking it as a gift and the custom dude gets the itch and opens the package and decides to charge customs , how will he know the price of the product to charge a % of it? Surely the guys at customs aren't a high tech bunch are they? they all must be pot bellied officials and surely they wouldn't know what a ps3 is

LOL

The fact that they are a pot bellied illterate bunch could prove disastrous for you lest they decide that its a very high tech machine and should be charged heavy duty...High tech or not, you will be easily charged massive customs for it

Please don't ever import a PS3 marking it as gift, assuming u buy it from an online store, the costs inclusive of shipping+customs headache is just going to escalate costs much about what a PS3 costs here.

edit: If u really want an NTSC console, assuming it is because u want to play Region A blu ray movies, which should be the ONLY reason now to get a PS3 from abroad...get it through someone flying down

so you mean they'll just randomly charge any amount they want? how is that fair?

It isn't fair. It never was, you just have to live with it. Like I said, if u really want an NTSC console, get it through someone. Otherwise its best if you buy it from India. No headaches, plus u get your warranty.

Its just that u lose out of Reg A BR's

dude, if u want to import it thn who ever is bringing ur console, ask thm not to bring the box or bill for it !!!!! jus keep it in ur suitcase or whatever....

this is how ppl bring imported stuff to india n thts hw my gf's brings her stuff from dubai.....she kept the ps3 in her luggage bag n no duties on it since it was included in her luggage !

neways all the stuff is xrayed so eventually they know what all is there in the bag.... they only chk ur cabin luggage unless they sense somethingz fishy !!!!

And the frequent travellers would know that they put a cross with wet chalk on the x-rayed bags that may contain dutiable items. Always good to wipe it off with a cloth before you proceed to Customs clearance.

and how are u gonna wipe it off in front of them? plus wiping it off wid wet cloth will prolly leave a wet mark raising the suspicion :)

who told you to wipe it off in front of customs? Wipe it off as soon as you pick it from the conveyor belt and put it on your trolley. As you said sometimes customs buggers are lurking near the belts also, so need to be on the lookout for them as well. And you need not clean with a floor mopper, just a wet handkerchief does it. I can confirm this at B'lore/Delhi Int'l airports. When you approach the customs clearance, they are searching for these white cross marks on your luggage cases. They do not have time/patience to open each and every luggage piece going through customs clearance unless you are acting extremely nervous or making weird faces.

I know I am digging this thread up from its grave. Dint wanna start a new one for my query.

A friend of mine coming from USA will be carrying two laptops with him...One is his own and the other one is for me...will be carrying both of them in his hand baggage. He would be arriving at Delhi, would this be a problem or can get away with it?
