^ Yup, just look at the MW2 sales figures :P

I can't believe that after selling 15 million copies of one game, they can still complain. That's 15 million for MW2 FFS. They're already getting away with enough.

it's not about how much profit mw2 made or how much profit the next cod will make... they want to see whether monetization of online play is a viable concept and whether users will go for it. call of duty is the only game that has any chance of pulling this off due to it's popularity. if they tried it with crysis 2 or medal of honor or something, the mp of the game would be doa on release.

Maybe they can pull it off with an IW-developed Modern Warfare game. I don't think World at War was played online nearly as much as the MW games. So paying subscriptions to play Black Ops may not be the best idea.

I couldn't care less. If they charge for it, I'll just skip it without a bother.

peace

I wonder how many people who say no will eventually succumb to it if (when) it happens.

I mean you are paying 15 bucks for recycled maps every 2 months anyway. That evens out to a 10USD a month sub right there.

Are you saying Activision will stop putting out overpriced map packs if they go the subscription route? :P There's got to be a point when people will examine what they're getting for what they're shelling out and realize they're being swindled..

Or am I being too optimistic here?

Here's what will happen: Regular deathmatch will be free. There will be some modes which will be locked and require payment to play. Spec-ops will be pay and play. Access to certain maps will require pay n play. If they try subscription for all MP both MS and Sony will show them the door. They also could enable MP subscription only for the PC since that's where maximum piracy occurs. Having online subscription means a huge crackdown on piracy.

Maybe if there was no credible MP alternative, then yes. But we have Bad Company and the MP in it is almost as good!

The only problem is its a hard sell initially. I mean basically what you will be asking people to pay for in an MMO form is just the MP part of the game which is more or less the same it always was and no SP. And add a recurring cost to it.

Personally I cant see a single benefit you would get as a consumer over a regular CoD game. But then again I am not really surprised at the stupidity of people anymore. Or the silly sh*t they will cough up money for.

you've got to be kidding me!

Pirates will hack and rip the maps anyway and run them on separate servers which would be exclusive to pirates free of cost

@DA

That's not going to happen in case of console's

if MoH can Deliver something impressive and equals upto the black ops who would even dream of paying for this Patcher Carp sh*t.

I was talking from a PC ver. perspective. coz that's where this can be most easily implemented!

moh is going to sink without a trace. black ops doesn't even have to be good to beat the crap out of moh. it's releasing 1 month before moh and i predict that's exactly how long it will take for the game to start dying it's inevitable death.

coming back to the topic, pachter isn't 100% wrong in what he is saying. it's just his estimate of when and which game it will happen with... activision will design a call of duty mmo and release it eventually, and it will not be the equivalent of the mp we expect from shooters. it will be similar though, because shooters these days already have persistent levels/stats/unlocks but for this new game, the carrot will be dangled a little farther away from the player to keep him subscribed to the game.
