$35 :wOOtjumpy: I'd buy this just for the heck of it!

Cheaper than a PS3 game ffs!

don't worry just wait for a clarification from the govt 2 years later. "Mr. Sibal was misquoted. Media forgot to put a 0 at the end. Actual cost is $350"

The pricing is actually absurd - if it was around $100 I would be assured that this would release in time. I also don't notice any connectivity options - if they say it requires a dock and ethernet that will be the biggest fail in the world.

Check the link rithvik posted. It says it has wiifi. And government is selling at 50% subsidy

I hope that the kids that this was intended for actually get this and its not sold off to the general public until its given to them first just to make more money. Although honestly I can't see this working from a fabrication POV because forget the cost of the parts, how are they recovering all the fabrication and shipping charges that also get tacked on. Expect another press release shortly.

Haven't even heard about the so called other projects.So I still am hopeful about this.

There is a considerable amount of coverage of this in the International media.

OT: The simputer mentioned earlier was one of the pieces of info that came up in the final buzzer round on the national finals of the National-level TCS IT Wiz for me when I was back in school. Answering that question netted my partner and me 2nd place that year and a whole load of goodies (yes, even more than some giveaways I've won). That name is unforgettable. However, like you say, even I don't know what the *bleep* happened to the simputer project.

@Shantz

Well, if they do release it at less than or equal to a PS3 game's price, I'd still buy it. But I doubt even they would go as high as $350

Is India's $ 35 laptop really Indian?

Just read this. If true, it would mean the only innovation done in India was Kapil Sibal’s ability to keep it under wraps after so much hype for so long…

My take on it: http://tech.shantanugoel.com/2010/09/13/the-great-indian-35-tablet-hoax.html
