Ne0
cool, will check this out tonight on my ps3.
spindoctor
thoroughly impressed with the demo. the hack and slash combat is well done (and looks like it will get better as you level up) and it has proper rpg elements and stats controlling the underlying game. it runs pretty well too, and it looks good because they've gone with the artwork > graphics approach. you can see that it's heavily inspired by world of warcraft in that department. after a 20 minute linear tutorial, you're sent to a village which is surrounded by forests. fairly large area but it's not open world. you will run into invisible walls if you try and break bounds, but otherwise it works okay. a bit like dragon age where you travel to self contained but fairly large open areas. the user interface could definitely be better, as you can see the console influence there but then again it's not as bad as the default skyrim interface, and that didn't ruin the game. mute playable character but otherwise the game is fully voice acted. the only thing remains is whether the story and lore and game world they set up is good or not. fairly generic fantasy trappings from what i could tell, started skipping parts of the dialog later because i just wanted to get back into the game (since the demo is time limited). in case people are interested in the mass effect 3 promo items, you must finish the demo to get them all. how it works is, it starts with a 20 minute tutorial and then you go to the first village where you have 45 minutes to do whatever you want. you'll get some items the moment you login to your ea account when you launch the demo, but you will only get the me3 weapon at the end of the 45 minute timer when the demo expires. some screenshots - some info about the steam version - http://forums.reckoning.amalur.com/showthread.php?2167-Reckoning-Available-Now-on-Steam! now this part bugs me a bit. the steam version has steamworks support including cloud saving and all that, which is obviously a plus for me at least. downside is it costs 3x the retail price. they also mention at the end that all non steam versions will require origin activation, which is not something that i'm particularly fond of. and despite this, the retail version does not register on origin so that could pose a problem in certain circumstances. all in all though, the demo sold the game to me. will definitely be picking it up. Ne0
^^ Not open world ? What about side quests / exploration etc ?
spindoctor
it's not open world. not like skyrim for example where you can just wander off in any direction... this game has hubs like i mentioned... a village surrounded by a forest so you can go off into the forest and do quests. i'm sure the the forest has a path linking it to the next hub somewhere but it's still a self contained area. didn't have time to explore the entire forest in the demo but it's possible that you could run from one hub to another seamlessly so i guess that technically makes it open world? side quests are your standard stuff, help random people with random tasks. how good the game is will depend on the writing i guess. and there's no real exploration to be done i think. Ne0
^^ kind of like 'the witcher' games ?
spindoctor
yea i guess although i'd say the witcher hub zones were larger. it's hard to tell with the demo seeing as you won't even have enough time to explore it fully if you are actually running back and forth doing quests. sup bro?
Similar to Darksiders, I suppose??
Big Boss
I guess I will buy the game after I get some points clear. I really want it to be open world like Skyrim, with vast areas where we can wonder without any issues. EDIT: Saw spin's screenshots. It has that Fable look to it, glossy characters and environments etc. Not good for me.
Ne0
^^ Fable is a damn good game (atleast the first 2). See if you can find a cheap PC version somewhere and give it a shot. Don't be fooled by its cartoony look, it has some amazing quests.
Big Boss
^I tried Fable 3. Was bored into oblivion for the first 1-1.5 hrs I played. The cartoony and hammy characters totally put me off.
spindoctor
this is a far more serious and 'real' rpg than fable.

spindoctor
you can turn shadows off. otherwise graphics settings are pretty sparse... about 6-7 in total - shadows, shaders, textures, i think post processing and a couple of others. dante77
I've only played Fable 3 and loved it. I think Fable is one of the most brutally under-rated series mainly because of its awesome combat system.

devil_angel
I absolutely love Fabe. But I can surely say that it has a stupid combat system, if one such system exists
dante77
whats the release date of this game?
Ne0
Played the PS3 demo for around 45mins or so. Quick impressions: Pros: 1. Nice art work. Similar to fable. 2. Good and interesting combat, with good blend of stealth, combat & magic. 3. RPG elements looks nice, with multiple classes/races and all the other regular stuff. Not a hack like fable or ME. 4. Looks to be having a pretty interesting lore, hard to tell from such a short time play. Cons: 1. Mediocre graphics. 2. Dumb AI. This really needs improvement. There were times when I was fighting one soldier and the other next to him was standing still. Faced such instances multiple times. Will play on PC , most probably
