check my earlier post about splitting your source file into 100mb segments, then splitting the second 100mb segment into 25mb sub-segments and emailing/ftp'ing/web-exchanging one of the sub-segments (25mb) to me...

GOTSent 0.23 Beta 9 is released.

New Features Beta 9

Detection of playable h264 files on the PS3/360, by courtesy of DItlew. Thank you for the hard work!

Mpeg2 encoding of files, set by default on files that otherwise won't play on the PS3/360.

Fallback audio encoding/better error handling.

Aspect ratio set correctly on files where pixel and display resolution vary.

Command line usage: Gotsent23beta9.exe [filename/folder name] encodes the file/all files in the folder and stores them in the GOTSent 'Outout to' folder. (GOTSent needs to be ran once normally before using this)

Many Many Many bugs fixed.

Thank you all for your feedback.

More is on the way. Subs embedding is disabled for now because of the huge diversity in sub types used. New work is being done on better sub detection and embedding in mpeg2 encodes, checks for PS3 or 360 preferred output to be able to use 6 channel AC3 audio in mpeg2 files on the PS3, as well as higher mpeg2 bit rates, and provisional work is being done on 25 fps fixes for smooth 720p/50 playback of 24 fps sources.

GOTSent 0.23 Beta 10 is released

Many bug fixes again.

Yes, it's possible.

Sorry for the earlier post regarding using gdsmux.exe. It's doable only with file sizes in the range of 100MBs. Anything higher than that will give undesired results. But after an extensive researching and experimenting with my own HD vob files i finally narrowed it to one tool called MKVMergeGUI v 2.10. It works well with all file sizes and best of all with the correct filters and codecs it can accept as input all the major media formats (including avc encoded vob movies :nerves: )

Download link (it's an executable installer and does have support for command line options):

http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolni...2.1.0-setup.exe

Notes:

1) After adding the file, it's important to just highlight the video description under the "Tracks" section and go to "Format specific section" below, and set the FPS value to 23.976. If this value is not set, by default mkvmerge will set it to 25fps and this will result with syncing issues in the final mkv video. Accordingly, for 1080p rips set the value to 29.97.

2) After getting the final mkv download Gotsent0.23 beta10 to split and demux it into vob or mp4 file. This latest version finally allows rewind/forward with vob files which previous versions couldn't do.

gotsent is great for cross-platform compatibility (mp4 containers with aac audio), but the ps3 is a superior media player (compared to the 360) and so it makes sense to switch loyalties to tsmuxer and create AVCHD discs that playback as regular BR-DVDs.

some starter guides:

Convert .MKV video files to .m2ts for PlayStation 3 using tsMuxeR

Convert .MKV files to Blu-ray or AVCHD for PlayStation 3 using tsMuxeR

Create AVCHD discs with subtitles using tsMuxeR

the only problem i've been facing is that the .m2ts streams are marginally larger than the .mkv containers and hence burning 4.3GiB hdrips as AVCHD on DVD5 is not possible without a lil pruning.

Although tsmuxer is great tool for PS3, it doesn't play very well with mkv files having DTS audio. If you set output option to blu-ray, it'll create a blu-ray disk structure and if you burn it on a disk, it'll play perfectly on PS3. But if you make a standalone, single m2ts file with DTS, there'll be no sound when you play it on PS3. You need something like eac3to, first extract the DTS file from mkv using tsmuxer, convert it to AC3 (Dolby Digital) using eac3to and remux it back again with tsmuxer. Then set the output to m2ts and it'll play properly on PS3.

the output to bluray option does nothing radically different - it basically creates the same m2ts file(s) but saves it within an AVCHD folder structure. so it's possible that the blu video player (on the ps3) is more forgiving...

Yeah, if you copy that m2ts file from AVCHD disk to PS3 harddrive and try to play it, there'll be no sound. The same file will play fine on disk with blu-ray file structure. So obviously the blu-ray player software on PS3 can play it with DTS audio, but not the XMB video player.

now back to my problem - most 720p hdrips available online are 4.7GB is size and although the .mkv file would fit well enough on a DVD5, the resulting .m2ts doesnt - might have to revert back to using a .mp4 container with 5.1 audio (i think the new versions of gotsent have this option)

.ts does save about 2% as compared to .m2ts (i dont know why, i thought both were mpeg2 transport streams?) - BUT even then the resulting file is larger than its .mkv counterpart (and wont fit on a DVD5)
