guys.. what is the significance of the flashing 3 red lights ?? and the console works just fine when its restarted... is it a sign of an impending rrod ?? :helpsmilie:

not necessarily , sometimes they just flash if your cables are not connected properly, but if they are flashing if everything is connected fine, then its sign of trouble

If all 4 quadrants flash, then the cable connection is improper. In this case.....death might be awaiting

Just a small doubt guys..

I'm trying to connect my console to Xbox LIVE using an Ethernet cable. My PC and console are in different rooms and so I tried taking my modem alone to the room where I have my console and inserted the Ethernet cable and tried testing the network but it says network connection failed. :(

How should I go about this?

P.S: I don't have a wireless router nor do I have a wi-fi adapter for the Xbox. Oh and BTW, I have a BSNL connection(I know it sucks, but what to do?!)

Enter the network settings manually.Then see whether it works.

I tried that as well! I entered the details of my connection such as user ID, password and then entered the same IP address it generated in the manual setting and after testing it that way, even the Network won't configure! If I do it with Automatic and clear out all the details of my connection, the network configures but the Internet connection fails!

Reading comprehension fail. :doh:

@Cescfabregas

What is the IP and DNS server address picked up by your console, in automatic settings? Oh, and model no. of router? Also, try to search for MS help docs for DNS error. They have a full document describing possible reasons, and how to solve them.

here you go. https://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/kb.aspx?ID=978847

Ummm.. I tried connecting the modem direct to the Xbox and not through a router. In the automatic detection settings, the IP address generated was 192.168.1.1 and Default Gateway was 255.255.255.0

Whoops! I didn't check anything on the DNS! My bad... Now, is that absolutely necessary?

BTW, one basic doubt. I don't have my computer connected to the modem while I attempt this Xbox - modem connection and also, in my PC, the connection to the Internet is done via a dialer and it is not in the "always on" mode. Does that affect the situation?

And thanks for that link! Will check it out.
