Metroid Prime 3:Corruption

Developer: Retro Studios

Publisher: Nintendo

Genre: FPS/Adventure

Platform: Wii

Release: August 27,2007(US)

Vids: Trailer

Utilizing the unique powers of the Nintendo Wii system, Retro Studios once again takes us to the beyond with bounty Hunter Samus Aran.

The Galactic Federation's Base Sector Zero is under attack by Space Pirates. Samus must boot up the generator to restore the defense systems. But at the end of her path, someone awful is waiting for her. The war initiated by Dark Samus and the Space Pirates rages across many planets as they attempt to corrupt each with Phazon seeds. Players use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to explore alien landscapes, hunt for weapons and information, and destroy the seeds. Saving the planets from Corruption isn't enough, though. Eventually, players must take down Samus' mortal enemy, Dark Samus. Besides using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to pull off amazing feats like aiming and blasting in midair or at a full run, players also will have an array of different weapons at their disposal.

Yeah, saw the article some time back. They gave it a perfect 10, here's from n4g

According the latest word on the net, the first official review of the upcoming Wii exclusive game, Metroid Prime 3 : Corruption, is in from Nintendo Power. They give the game a perfect score of 10/10.

Reasons :

- First Wii game that you couldn't confuse graphically with last-gen

- Great artwork

- Incredible feeling of immersion

- Flawless level design; tons of freedom to explore but you always have the feeling that you're at the right place at the right time. Sounds like the game does a remarkable job of nudging you as to what to do without giving it away.

- Best platforming design in a first person shooter

- Gestures for pulling levers, etc markedly improved from earlier demos

EDIT: Holy f*ck, is it coming out this 27th?? didn't notice that before. Damn all this Bioshock hoopla. This one slipped right under the radar. There goes another 60 bucks this months :(

Yeah thanks, I was hoping to finish them before Corruption, didn't notice it is coming out this month. Nintendo has made no efforts to hype this game, no soda can pics, no limited edition Samus helmet and stuff.

thats nintendo for you, they barely hyped twilight princess too,the game sold on its name alone, but metroid isn't as big a franchise as zelda, maybe they should've done something about it.

New Metroid Prime 3: Corruption ad seems dangerous

From Joystiq

We know that you're dying to play Metroid Prime 3: Corruption right now, and who can blame you? The thing looks great. And if you're stranded in airport and two kindly Japanese men offered you the chance to play the game early, we wouldn't be mad at you for being tempted. What better way to pass the hours? We've got a better way: Not getting arrested.

We're not Homeland Security experts, but we're pretty sure that swinging an unusual wand connected via a cord to another device in an airport is a bad idea. And we're positive that pretending to fire this contraption would ... well, let's just say you'd miss your flight. That said, the game looks good enough that we're wondering if we'd be able to resist.

motion sickness  ??

Its a common occurrence in FPS games. Players feel nauseous because of all the jumping, weaving, bobbing and circling around from the first person perspective. Which is why most development houses are taking pains to include bright, outdoor levels in their FPS games instead of closeting players in dark, gloomy, claustrophobic environs like Doom and Bioshock.

oh....anyways i actually found the way u use the motion controller pretty interesting, the way you can pull doors open and fit in keys into locks and open them while shooting with the other hand....sounds fun :P

I'm highly tempted to buy a wii....if more games like these come, I defenitely will. Unfortunately, right now, its filled with mario and its clones

Using the Wiimote for things like unlocking doors is just a gimmick. It means that what would take you a single button press and a 2 second wait in most FPS's will take you a lot longer and involve a lot more effort. Unlocking a door using the Wiimote is not really skill based. On the other hand, if they incorporate some skill based utilisations such as the mine assembling activity in Splinter Cell : Double Agent where you had to precisely line up and fit the detonation pin into the detonator assembly, it would take the immersion to a whole new level.

wii IS a gimmicky console :P !

Not True. Some of the games on the Wii are truly incredible experiences like Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess and now, hopefully Metroid. (Emo, please feel free to add more choice games to my comment)

My point was that the usage of the Wiimote to unlock doors is gimmicky. On the other hand the use of the Nunchuk to lash at the enemies using Samus's whip or chain or whateveritis is a nice touch.

I wasn't talking about the motion sensing in Zelda. I was refuting NeoV's post that the Wii is a gimmicky console. And in doing so I was referring to traditional, high quality games like Zelda and Metroid which are against the usual Wii mould of kiddy or tp games.

10 Presentation

The best yet in the Prime series, Corruption comes to life with atmoshperic cinemas and voice acting. Meanwhile, a medal system and WiiConnect24 support offer great incentive to keep playing.

9.5 Graphics

Currently, Wii's best looking game. Retro's artistic sense is second to none. Prime 3 includes a welcomed variety of gorgeous planets to explore and runs in 480p / 16:9 at 60 frames per second.

10 Sound

The score by Kenji Yamamoto is as moody as ever, even featuring throwbacks to some previous games. The sound effects are punchy and the voice acting is well implemented.

9.5 Gameplay

Spectacular. Controls better than any console first-person game before it, features great pacing and a fun mix of puzzles and shooting. Contrastly, there's a tedious fetch quest and some door loads.

9.0 Lasting Appeal

At 20-plus hours, it stands tall nex to the other Prime games. The single-player affair is a little easier, but you can extend replay by scanning everything or playing again in Hyper Mode.

9.5/10

Incredible

:D
