New 360 controller announced

The flaw, with the D-pad, is only obvious with fighting games. The positioning of the pad makes it slightly awkward to use IMO. However, D-pad isn't being used for other than accessing the inventory or performing actions which require continuous accessing the D-pad, in most of the games.

MS addressed the flaw couple of times, once as JCD mentioned, and second time with limited Red controllers. But there is no reason not to fix it once for all.

I find undergrown triggers and almost lack of deadzones more serious issues. :|

I'm not saying it was flawed (as I'm perfectly okay with it), but they call it the most ergonomic controller ever and decide to revamp it five years down the line (which could have been easily done during the launch), out of the blue. That's what p*sses me off. :/

They couldn't have done it during the launch man,its obvious they wouldn't know there will be problem with the D-Pad,if they did (very unlikely) they should have changed at that time only but they didn't they came to know about the Defect with the D-Pad after the Launch so yea then they just can't launch a new product or revamped thing out of a box just like that as i said in my above comment

For example take the case of Iphone 4,You know all those Retina problems and they came to know about it after launch but they didn't just announce a new revamped iphone just like that.

Its all Business

If it was a very intricate flaw, I would gladly concur with you. But, this is a basic design flaw. Anyone testing the 360 controller prototype back then, with a fighting game would've noticed it well enough. The thing is, they didn't see it as big a flaw that required them to redo the design all over back then. And if necessary they would've planned for a revamped controller launch later in the life-cycle (or even specific fighing game controllers), which is pocket filling for them as well.

Can't say its a basic design flaw because Everyone have their own tastes maybe the one in MS testing centre didn't find it much of a necessary to change it but on the run people need it to be changed.

Looks alright. Hard to care though, I mean I dont play fighting games and I cant honestly think of one game where I was using the Dpad for more than swapping weapons. :|

IMO Ninty have the best Dpad out there. Put that into the 360 and that is easily the greatest controller ever made. And thats coming from someone who has extensively used a NES, SNES, N64, PS1/2/3, Xbox, Wii, bunch of logitech PC pads and (for a very short time) a Dreamcast and NGC controllers.

Try playing Castle Crashers, Shadow Complex, Scott Pilgrim, Braid or any other 2D-ish game or even a beat 'em up like Street Fighter IV and you'll know what I'm talking about. Sure the controller is pure win when it comes to Action titles,FPSes, TPSes and RPGs but for a lot of other games it's a bit of a bitch to deal with.

Have played Shadow Complex, haven't had any trouble <_<

Cripes Milo you have some weird taste. The first Xbox controller was a monstrosity. The second redesign was a little more palatable.

Edit Another vote for SC. It worked perfectly. Any aiming issues were design flaws and not controller issues. Same for N+, Splosion man, BC Rearmed etc.

weren't you the one who was considering buying the xbox shorty?

Ok so playing around with it a bit, i am still not sure if i want to buy it, the only advantage for me is the Wi Fi, and since i don't even play on Live, i am tempted to let this one slip.

i guess i have made up my mind, will but it after jan when they start shipping this controller as a standard :P

@Snake So you no longer read first posts and just barge in with a "witty" comment? Bravo.

/Golf clap.

Its looks like a nice change. The Dpad was bad for the original controller, but i never played any games which required extensive use of Dpad.

Rarely used the D-Pad anyway. Apart from assigning weapons and ability switch, I didn't bother using it. I just had a slight bit of issue while using the D-Pad to play Bionic Commando: Rearmed recently. Games like these which rely a lot on proper cross navigation needs a good D-Pad. Pretty useful for folks who rely a lot on D-Pad usage.
