lcd TV vs lcd monitor

^^

Regarding the IPS panels, I saw an LG Tv with IPS panel and was told that only LG has those, atleast in the 32" category. I dint notice much improvement in pic quality though.

Theoretically IPS panels are supposed to be superior. Tbh, I didn't find much of a difference between an LG sporting an IPS panel and a Samung series 5 tv.

I was am looking to buy a screen too, but due contraint of space in my room I may have to let go an LCD Tv. But again, the price and the EMI option seem too cheap to decide against it. Always difficult to fight the gadget freak within

How good are the IPS panels? and LG as a brand? The only thing that I know of IPS is that of the viewing angle..

What's your budget like? That's the most important thing to consider before buying a tv.

IPS panels supposedly have better color reproduction and better viewing angles. Not sure about the color reproduction bit, as both the Samsung and LG models produced some vivid colors. But I can definitely vouch for the viewing angle bit. IPS panels really does improve the viewing angle. If you want more technical details about IPS panels, you can find it here

And about LG as a brand, I'd say they're on par with Samsung on brand value. It's almost been a month since I've bought my tv and I'm quite happy with its performance and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.

One more thing, get yourself a digital tv connection along with the tv. Ordinary cable tv looks horrible on high def panels.

That does not make any sense at all.

A small monitor would require you to sit quite close to it or otherwise, things would look puny. Whereas on a medium sized tv, you can afford to sit farther. But that doesn't mean you should sit farther.

Seriously, there's no difference between a monitor designed for PCs and a TV in that respect? I mean, we can sit at the same closer distance for a monitor and a TV (say a 30 incher) with the same comfort level? That's theoretically okay.....but practically?

Unless you sit very far away from a tv, a 32 inch tv will always feel bigger and better than a 22 inch monitor. Why would you want to sit that far from the tv in the first place? I have a 32 inch hi def tv and I sit only 4-5 feet away from it, which is only a couple of feet more than the usual viewing distance on a 20 inch monitor.

So what iv gotten from this thread is there is no difference between monitor and a TV OF THE SAME SIZE in picture quality. So for a low budget a 22-23 inch monitor would suffice.

You wont be able to watch regular tv shows on it unless it has a couple of hdmi ports and you have digital tv service. Also, the viewing angle is bound to suck. I have a 20 inch samsung b2030 monitor and its viewing angle is terrible.

That's my question.....isn't it less comfortable than with a monitor to sit nearer to a 32 Inch TV?? I'm asking coz I haven't tried it out....coz you know, we here in India are brought up with a mindset of not to sit too close to television right from childhood

It's isn't uncomfortable at all unless you sit very, very near close to it. But apparently, it is not good for your eyes.

The Nintendo NES was the very first console I owned. And since it had a wired controller I had to sit fairly close to the tv while gaming. From then on, I just could not bring myself to sit farther than 4-5 feet away from the tv while gaming, even if I had a wireless controller on my hand.

guess the parents were right afterall :P

But yeah, my first one was one of those 16 bit (was it? ) consoles and hence I used to sit near the TV as well, so shifted to monitors after PC gaming kicked in.....and been comfortable with a monitor ever since :)

Meh, I've been gaming for over a decade and my eyes are as keen as ever. Mayble I'll suffer the after effects once I'm 40ish...

Even with PC gaming, you can't sit more than 2-3 feet away from the monitor.
