Kinect brain training, pacman revealed in Japan

Recommended Posts

In this morning's announcement of the 250GB Xbox 360 Kinect bundle, Microsoft teased that it would be revealing new games for its motion-sensing system at next week's Tokyo Game Show. While it's unclear which new titles the company will reveal, some light was shed on the lineup in a Japanese press conference last night.

Dr. Ryuta Kawashima is crafting a brain training game for Kinect.

Gaming blog Andriasang was in attendance and reported that one of the titles will be a Kinect brain training title from Namco Bandai. Dr. Ryuta Kawashima, cocreator of the wildly successful DS Brain Age series, apparently served as an advisor on the game and his name will be featured in the title.

The title will reportedly feature a number of hybrid motion/puzzle-based minigames, including a soccer ball game in which players kick balls with the right answers to math questions. Another minigame will have players pop balloons bearing numbers in an ascending or descending order.

Also demonstrated at the event was Pac-Man's first presence on the Kinect system. As can be seen in the YouTube video below, the game will have players move both hands to control Pac-Man and the various bonus items he munches on. It was unclear from the blog whether or not the game would be part of the brain training title, and US Namco Bandai reps had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.

Kinect goes on sale in Japan on November 20 and will cost ¥14,800 ($177) in a bundle with Kinect Adventures. Those two items will also be included in a ¥29,800 ($355) bundle with the matte-finish 4GB Xbox 360 and a ¥39,800 ($475) bundle with the glossy 250GB Xbox 360. Both models come with built-in N wireless functionality.

Finally the strategy is clear - shut down the Xbox 360 division forever.

a friend of mine is a microsoft student partner for his college..

so they had a chance to play kinect during a conference at Goa last month..

he says the experience is awesome..

well i personally feel reading about all posts on the net.. tht kinect is not worth it..

but in the end, when we play it. the final conclusion will arrive.. :puspa:

BT was great on the DS. :fear:

Thats because DS is a handheld, some games work great on handheld because it is portable, like pokemon it works because whenever I ham forced to go to a wedding I can always take my gameboy along and train pikachu to 100. (I used to do that some years ago,now I dont get forced :) ) Itll never work in a console because you take time out to play, same does not go for a handheld because heck I can play on my handheld while studying or at school

I am not excited about Kinect gaming.

However, I am excited about the future prospects for controlling the console menu.

Like voice recognition and gesture based stuff. pausing a movie, zooming in using your fingers or flicking your hand to forward/rewind. Or the console switching on when it sees me enter the room and goes on standby when I leave.

And eventually I want it wired to all the house appliances. Make coffee by just saying so. Dial a number by just waving your hand. Switch of the lights by just snapping your fingers.

Screw the kiddie games is what I say. I want Minority Report.

^^ See that's the problem with kids. Don't think big enough. What's the use of depth in imagery if you can only look? Might as well open up a regular private browsing session on the computer.

Kinect with accessories (I'm sure Japan will be the first to come up with the first pr0n bot)
