Tyler
^^ No he was a regular red. @pb, yeah the best way to deal with Sif is to be aggressive and tank him with your best shield and weapon. If you try to be defensive and move away he has a tendency to either pounce or do the 360 spin, which really hurts even after blocking. Stay between his legs and hack away... or use Combustion/Great Combustion.
pbpoovannagamer
Sif has been slain. in the end i 2 handed the claymore, shield was useless, Anor Lando here i come with 150 poison arrows. I thought i will meet Artorias after slaying Sif. is the talking cat in the window just before Sif fight of any significance? Its says " Begone from here pernicious caitiff " after i ans NO to some question regarding Artorias's grave lol. I wish this game had a little more background info on the places and bosses and other NPCs, would have made the game more richer in Lore anyone know anything about Sif ?? what's a wolf doing there and why was it protecting Artorias's grave ? even the wiki has no info
Tyler
The cat is your entry point to the Forest Hunter covenant. Don't worry about it right now unless you want to do some PVP or get access to some exotic weapons like the Washing Pole, Uchigatana etc. As for the lore it's all there, keep reading the item descriptions and talk to NPCs multiple times. This isn't the kind of game where they just blatantly tell you what things mean in gameplay terms. Also watch some of EpicNameBro's videos on Youtube (after you finish the game of course). Most of your lore questions will be answered. He's a really cool guy who has done extensive research on the game lore using only the stuff presented in-game. It's a must for any Dark Souls fan. . Covenants, PVP etc is entirely optional and doesn't really affect the game if you're playing solo anyway. I think the only covenant that's useful for soloing is the Chaos Servant because it gives you access to powerful spells and opens a very convenient shortcut later in the game. Tyler
Okay, did it! Ornstein and Smough are down. Didn't upgrade anything just played it patiently. I must admit though this was by far the toughest battle on my SL1 run. Must have died at least 30 times to them. I did it entirely with Pyro spells (Combustion and Great Combustion). Took out Ornstein first. My heart was racing while fighting Super Smough.

I am currently using +5 Spiked shield. Which is quite good, 115 defence IIRC. But parry is replaced by strike.
Tyler
Yeah and I even had 2 charges of Combustion left at the end of the fight. Best shields? IMO Eagle Shield, Black Knight Shield, Grass Crest Shield, Crest Shield are good all-round options. There are some situational shields as well Spider Shield (for toxic enemies), Target Shield for parrying etc. The best option is usually anything that blocks 100% physical damage and has high stability rating. dylanjosh
I think this game thread is the one with the most genuine, on-topic discussion I've ever seen here. Is this better on PC or 360? Planning to get in a few weeks if it goes on sale

R a g h u
Finally, dropped all the gear for MeanMachine. It took us close to one and half hour for the whole drop & pick up with a break in-between.

Thanks. Have all of those except Black Knight shield. Just wanted to know if i am missing any. Grass crest shield forever. Yup, i sometimes even try grass crest + cloranthy ring. 70% boost! Planning to get in a few weeks if it goes on sale I have never seen a PC vs Console discussion in this thread. Get any version. Both console versions are fine. Only issue i faced on PS3 is that the frame drops a lot in one particular area in Blighttown. But that is just a small area with a few enemies. So nothing major. I think PC version has a mod to get 60 fps insted of locked 30 fps.

Planning to get in a few weeks if it goes on sale PC version with a 360 controller (don't even bother with KB+M, the game just isn't designed for that kind of control scheme) and more importantly Durante's 'dsfix' mod which improves the graphics significantly. Also the PC version comes with the DLC expansion and will cost you less (I think it's $14 on Amazon right now). The "Prepare to Die" version for consoles is not available here officially. Grass crest shield forever. So true. It's my "go to" shield. Edited February 24, 2013 by Tyler

I'm afraid my PC won't run it though. i5 - 2320 CPU @ 3.00 GHz 4GB RAM nVidia GeForce
Tyler
I think you should be fine if you're able to run other recent games. The game is CPU heavy. In fact the game causes performance issues on AMD cards because it puts the card on "low power" mode. I have a slightly better card (5850) but a worse CPU (Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz) and it works great. My PC is pretty much on it's last stretch

Aftrunner
@ Dylanjosh PC all the way. As long as you plan on using a 360 controller. I know pbpoovannagamer is using a Mouse and Keyboard but not a lot of people will be able to stomach that. Pros - Better graphics (like WAY better), includes DLC, cheaper and GFWL ( ). Cons - Online community is getting smaller, GFWL? ( ) @ pbpoovannagamer Grass crest (upgraded to +10) is really nice idea for a STR build. Your weapon swings take a large amount of stamina. With the Grass crest shield and Cloranthy ring, you can recover stamina pretty quickly. Edited February 24, 2013 by Aftrunner
