Elessar
Use the staircases while fighting Lautrec and his buddies. Mostly they can only come at you one at a time there and you can take them down in succession. Lautrec's attacks may go through your shield, so don't rely on that while fighting him. (A)Kira
Kaathe for sure. Farmpt is next to uselss, plus you can invade people with a non perishable item after giving 10 or so humanity to the covenant.
Aftrunner
Ideally for the second half of the game you want to be around SL 60 at the most. That lets you co op with people from SL 44 to 76. Really wide range that lets you help people in almost every area of the game. But again if its your first playthrough, I would say play normally and level up as you want to. You can then make a proper co op or invasion character with a new playthrough.

(A)Kira
Found this to help you AnK- Mana doesn't exist. You get a number of casts on a spell, which means you can't suck on grasses all day to replenish mana.Bonfires are a thing, they are kinda like mini-checkpoints. They reset all the normal enemies, refresh your health/castings and reset your estus flasks to whatever the current maximum is for that bonfire. (You can raise them by spending humanity, if you're human)There's some changes to the equipment model, meaning the CARRY burden doesn't exist, but the worn burden is a lot more prominent. To balance this, there's this thing called poise. Basically, having a high poise (high armor) you can do more actions without getting interrupted by someone else beating you up. IE: Little rapier guy won't be interrupting you swinging that huge greasword if your poise is high, and he's going to take it in the face if he tries to trade swings with you.The levels are not based around a central hub that you select the level. There's pretty much no loading of the game, meaning if you clear certain requirements (opening doors, etc) you can walk from one point to the next, if you wanted to. It's done really well if you ask me. It really seemed to me that the crystal lizards were not as crucial as they were in Demon's Souls. I mean, they existed, but they were not as common, and the resources gained from them, in most cases, was not needed as much. It's a good thing I think, if you're cautious about what you make, you won't find yourself screwed.Dark Souls has received a lot of patches and updates to scale the difficulty down a bit. Souls from kills were increased, etc. etc. Don't get me wrong, Demon's Souls had a few patches, but I don't remember them being as notable. The individual fights are the same, don't get me wrong...but you don't have to farm as much as you used to, assuming you weren't using an exploit before the patches happened.Multiplayer is done a lot differently. It's not just "oh, an invader" there are different types of invaders, and in some rare situations, you can even find yourself with 2 enemy players. If you're a carebear kind of person, who refuses to engage in PVP, you'll have to play certain sections of the game offline. Sucks to be you! You can go back to playing CoD at any time!Running away from a person is the DUMBEST thing you could really ever do in Dark Souls, as the games horrible netcode makes it possible to be backstabbed even if you're 50 yards away from them.Speaking of netcode, Dark Souls uses peer to peer lobbies, so connecting to people is more difficult, ESPECIALLY if you are trying to summon a specific friend. Don't do this, it's kinda dumb, and doesn't fit into the mythos of the game.Dark Souls is a much bigger game. Many bosses can be gimped, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was in Demon's Souls. Aftrunner
Rapiers are so much fun. Its a shame I almost never use them. They are really good if you have a low END build, each swing takes a small bit of stamina and they are pretty light too. On the downside, the damage is low but buff it and its a killer weapon. Crimson-Ivy
Anyone wants help with Artorias DLC or in any other areas, add me up. I have 4 characters at SL 32, 89, 125 and 190 something. Also, up for PvPs.
Aftrunner
Oh man. I am guessing you are on PS3? I have a SL 25 Char and Artorias is just wrecking me solo. Although Airtel is kinda screwing up with GFWL cant connect for more than a few minutes at a time. So not that it would matter much anyway. Aftrunner
I am on PC. :/ Dont matter anyway, just beat him. Was really scary close at the end though, he managed to buff up and I had like a sliver of health left when I got the last hit in. Its not that the boss is tough but the DLC bosses are all super resistant to elemental weapons. My +5 Chaos Baller sword was doing like 60 damage per hit. And Artorias would two shot me at full health. Compared to that, regular game bosses are all wusses when it comes to elemental weapons. You can absolutely destroy them. I am not doing Manus or Kalameet at that SL though. f**k that noise. recently i saw some yt videos and the guy was using a rapier as his primary weapon.the moveset is really cool but the damage done is very very low Pure damage isnt the whole story though. The fast moveset lets you get more hits in at a lower stamina cost. In the time it takes for someone to swing a Claymore, you could R1 stab with the Rapier 2-3 times. And its not that bad on the damage department either. The one I am using on my SL 90 build does 600+ damage at 30 DEX when enchanted with the Dark moon blade. VERY respectable. The real downside of a rapier to me is that it has no horizontal play realistically. Edited August 8, 2013 by Aftrunner
