First thing, never attack any NPC. That should be done only when you know exactly what you'll be getting into. On first playthrough just play it straight.

Secondly, he's not invincible, you're just too weak to beat him at this point. For now you don't have any other option but to continue to the Undead Burg and progress to a point where you meet the NPC who absolves sin (don't attack him too lol).

If it's too unbearable, I'd recommend restarting. You're still very early in the game. It will take hardly 15 min or less to get to Firelink from the beginning.

This is quite stupid from the developers (and from me too lol) but on my defense, things like this happen in RPGs. That is why I always prefer quick/manual saves over autosave in RPGs. These are the basic things in rpgs which needs to be taken care of.

Anyway, thanks. Will start from the beginning.

Haha. I remember the same thing happened with me in my first playthrough. I didn't purposefully attack him but pressed RB by mistake while close to him :P After many unsuccessful tries of defending my honor with a puny axe I restarted the game. Anyways it takes like 10 mins to get there.

Are you sure? He doesn't attack unless you continuously hit him. It took about 4-5 hit for him to be aggressive. I deliberately hit him just to see how the game reacts. Learned my lesson. No more experiments now :P

Dante, I think you're gonna have a blast with this game. The game goes against most gaming conventions. It will punish you really hard with seemingly no way to correct mistakes. It's not like the devs don't know about saving or cushioning the first time experience, it just doesn't suit the nature of the game. So either the player gets better and adapts or rage quits.

But once you get through it, every other game feels insignificant for a long long time. The first thing you need to do is forget about things you've learnt in other games. Treat the game as a real adventure you're going through without developers being there to cushion you. Play it slowly and carefully. And last but not the least, share your experience and ask for advice, both ingame and out of it.

Good thing is that doofus that you attacked doesnt really do much except regurgitate some plot and point you towards where you can go. He isnt really an important NPC, so if/when you kill him, its not gonna be a big deal at all. Just move forward in the game. Or restart. You are literally at the beginning. Its not gonna matter much.

I do agree that its pretty crappy of the game that this can happen. I once put down my controller and the shitty PS3 triggers auto pressed and attacked the blacksmith. O.o

Man, I'm so paranoid about the goddamn triggers although in the hundreds of hours I've played these games the only important NPC I accidentally pissed off and killed was the hobo vendor in Stonefang in DeS.

i think by trying to suck humanity with dark hand from undead perish blacksmith will count as offense and he aggros immediately. He wont give any humanity also. I aggrod him twice trying to suck humanity

Huh, usually sucking humanity inflicts like 1 or 2 damage and most npcs don't aggro at all from it.

Yeah, but that guy just aggroed and started punching

have to admit, he is pretty difficult to defeat without backstabs. his punches cant be parried and have to lookout for his flying kick.

You should not go into Catacombs first, the storyline requirement for it is much later. Though its boss is easy, you will have a tough time getting to him currently.

Ideally first you should head up the stone stairs near the well into Undead Burg. As the crestfallen warrior tells you (the one you attacked), your current objective is to ring two bells, which will be through those stairs.

Catacombs is a late game area. You will be wrecked there now. You need to go to the Undead Burg first. When you spawn at Firelink, look behind, there's a set of stairs leading up connecting to an aqueduct. There will be a few enemies guarding the path.

As a general rule, if an area is too difficult, you're not supposed to go there.
