As for the gear, I'd suggest dawning the Pyromancer's set as it has an excellent resistance stat against poison damage. With this and the Spider shield, you can easily explore the entire swamp, even if you get poisoned. The rate at which your health would decrease would be substantially low with this gear.

You dont really need poison resistant gear or anything. The rate at which poison hurts you is almost negligible. I have fought the boss and won easily despite still being "poisoned". Even if you dont want to do that, you still only need purple moss to detox yourself before you fight the boss. Otherwise a bonfire can heal poison and toxin effects so just run back to the bonfire if you arent fighting the boss and get poisoned.

The Depths is a hell of a tough place (tougher than Blighttown IMO) and its not really worth going there just to pick up gear. Infact the Spider shield is also on the bridge in the Valley of the Drakes. If you really REALLY want it (it isnt that important) then just do a suicide run to that bridge.

I would go with lightning unless you happen to walk around with 5+ soft Humanity most of the times.

Why cant you make both though? They both require different items to upgrade. And compliment each other nicely.

I clearly remember being shot by one of those poison darts from the snipers and it chewed away my health pretty fast. This was when I had my Elite Knight's armour set on me, on my first trip to blighttown. Then I experimented with the armour and the Thief's set proved to be pretty decent at resisting the impact of the poison damage. Then I got hold of my Pyromancer's set again in the swamp (dropped my original one at the start of the game) and post that, the poison resistance was pretty solid. I could make a whole trip around the swamp and let the effect of the poison wear off on it's own, by probably using, say 1 Estus flask, that is unless I didn't get mauled by those boulder barbarians.

^ Those darts deal toxic damage which i think drain the health bar faster. Being poisoned is different.

Is that so? Then I must have been mistaken, as I assumed both had the same effect and it lead to the poison meter being depicted on the screen. Well, in that case, it's a good thing those snipers don't re-spawn once they are finished off, which the first thing I did on my suicide run. :P

It's a sucky place to be in anyway. I always open the shortcut, go to the Bonfire directly.

Kill the Maneater Phantom, finish the boss fight and head back to Firelink Shrine.

The only useful thing to do in the Swamp is upgrade your Pyromancy, after finishing off the boss.

It wasn't nearly as bad the swamp from the 'Valley of Defilement' level in Demon's Souls. That was one place where you could easily get lost and navigating through it was a pain in the arse. Blighttown's swamp was much smaller in comparison. Thankfully, with the PC version, I didn't notice any drop in frame rates. I saw the console Walkthrough video to see how bad the frame drops were and I was shocked; it was atrocious.

Ugh f**k Valley of Defilement. Esp 5-2. And Tower of Latria 3-1 while we are at it too. Horrible level design, everything looks the same and the whole level is like a freaking maze. Thank god they learned from that in Dark Souls.

Anyway, Toxicity is not a problem either. Esp if you are doing Blighttown via shortcut. Only one dart guy can hit you on the way down and he isnt even in your path so its easy to avoid. You can run down to the bonfire in like 60 seconds flat easily.

Lost like 170k souls (+7 Humanity) last night in Tomb of the Giants. Not the most I have lost in NG but close enough. I should have spent them on some twinkling titanite but got lazy. :P

Attunement is for increasing the number of Attunement Slots.

Before using Pyromancy (eg. Fire Combustion), Magic (eg. Heavy Soul), Miracle (eg. Homeward), you need to place them in the attunement slot (Rest at a Bonfire and Choose Attune Magic).

The more points you put in Attunement, the more slots you have and so you can cast more magic, miracles etc (Though it is not linear. Maxes out at Attunement Level 30 I think). Putting anymore points in it after that is pointless.

Humanity, Is well basically humanity. You use it for becoming Human, Kindling Bonfires to get more Estus Flask (Max 20). It also increases your resistance against poison, toxin etc. It also increases your Item discovery. Some weapons damages increase depending on you Humanity level. However most effects peak out at 10 Humanity (Can reach max of 99).

Reverse Hollowing (becoming Human) enables PvP and people can start invading you when you are playing.
