GFWL is the reason i have been avoiding buying the retail version. Finally bought it on Steam to find out the game still uses GFWL for online play. They havent even gotten around to banning people who used trainers to cheat (hi Zodka ) forget banning people who are just messing with the game config. I never even went close to him. You should buy the poisonbite ring from Carim and the rusted iron ring from the asylum (returning back to the beginning level) to make your way down below. Also spider shield from the depths. IMO none of these are absolutely needed to get through though. In my first playthrough i had none of these and managed fine. Thats why they record them and people watch them: because they are good. Also it makes a huge diff if you play this with a joystick, diff for the better. It does, the enemy attack much more faster now, makes the game even more difficult but still playing at the smoothness of 60fps after playing at 30 also feels quite good. I'd rather prefer to downsample from an insane resolution and a solid 30FPS, and doubling up the game logic also as mentioned before also shortens your rolls and jumps. Otherwise, there's lots of areas to rest where enemies won't attack you....there are no respawning enemies once you clear any area unless ofcourse you die or rest at fire.
