Aftrunner
That ring is actually one of the best pieces of loot in the Great hollow. Surprised you found it. I didnt even see it in my first playthrough. Red chunks are used to upgrade fire and chaos weapons. The black smith that does that is in the Catacombs (ignore it for now), you need a specific item you will get later. Blue chunks are used to upgrade weapons to enchanted or divine status, thats only useful if you have high INT stats. So its kinda useless for you. The blacksmith down the lift in New Londo ruins does that. For the moment neither of those items are of much use but hang on to them. To upgrade past +5 you need the Large Ember. Its close to the entrance of the depths. Here - Killing those lizards is kinda hard unless you use a cheap trick. Get to where the lizard was. Then once it disappears, quit your game and the reload it. When you reload the lizard will be right next to you. Kill it ASAP. They drop different kinds of chunks, which was pretty useful.

meaNmachine
^^ Ya there are many such cheap tricks in this game In Blighttown, near the entrance the enemies while trying to hit you will simply fall to their death off the ledge. pbpoovannagamer
ya noticed that especially the flaming dogs
Tyler
Cloranthy Ring is awesome. I always end up using it a lot. It's great that you found it. That jump is a bitch and the ring itself is easy to miss. Also going down Great Hollow without the Lordvessel... Have you completed Sen's Fortress yet? pbpoovannagamer
that jump to get the ring was a fluke, i saw the glowing soul at a hard to reach place so i assumed something nice would be there so i leaped on top of that tree trunk and landed safely and what a reward wont be going down that place for a while no sen's fortress yet, now i am strong enough (lvl 40- str 29 end 23 vit 21) to take on queelag, got the black knight's shield good fire resistance, if i fight her with humanity instead of being undead will i get good drops ?? meaNmachine
^^ Boss drops are same for both human and hollow form, someone correct me if i am wrong. Anyway Qeelag will only drop few humanities and her soul. If you are in human form you can summon the NPC Maneater Mildred or any other player to help you in the fight. If you choose to fight her solo then the fight is quite challenging but the satisfaction you get after defeating her is priceless
WhiteWolf
Also going down Great Hollow without the Lordvessel... ....Is it possible to return without Lord Vessel ? Who owns Dark souls ip ? From Software or Namco ? Edited February 9, 2013 by Zodak™
meaNmachine
....Is it possible to return without Lord Vessel ? Yes by backtracking. I have done it. Without Lordvessel i completed Blighttown, Great hollow and Ash Lake. Died once while fighting Hydra in Ash lake by going too far in the lake. Aftrunner
that jump to get the ring was a fluke, i saw the glowing soul at a hard to reach place so i assumed something nice would be there so i leaped on top of that tree trunk and landed safely and what a reward wont be going down that place for a while no sen's fortress yet, now i am strong enough (lvl 40- str 29 end 23 vit 21) to take on queelag, got the black knight's shield good fire resistance, if i fight her with humanity instead of being undead will i get good drops ?? Damn you got a Black Knight Shield already? How? That thing is awesome. Upgrade it fully and its one of the best small shields. Kinda heavy but its worth it. Great stability, great fire resistance and decent lightning resistance. You might wanna start putting points into VIT now. Get it up to 25ish. Having more health gives you room to make mistakes and live to learn from them. No point in using Humanity on boss fights. Drop is always the same. Infact dont use humanity to increase item drops, you will soon get a ring in Sens fortress that will increase drop rates by a large margin. pbpoovannagamer
Damn you got a Black Knight Shield already? How? Drop from the black knight in undead burg near the blue tear stone ring, fought him with humanity and 6 souls and it dropped how do i summon maneater mildred when in human form while fighting queelag ? is there a drake in the place behind the bonfire in blight town swamps ? the place where it looks like an arena of sorts and a solitary chest with a dragon scale in it, where u need to jump down into it like a pit, saw an orange msg left by a player there saying WARNING DRAKE AHEAD!! was i being trolled ? cause there was no drake there when i was in undead form or in human form
Tyler
You might wanna start putting points into VIT now. Get it up to 25ish. Having more health gives you room to make mistakes and live to learn from them. Yup, especially against Ornstein & Smough. Drop from the black knight in undead burg near the blue tear stone ring, fought him with humanity and 6 souls and it dropped how do i summon maneater mildred when in human form while fighting queelag ? is there a drake in the place behind the bonfire in blight town swamps ? the place where it looks like an arena of sorts and a solitary chest with a dragon scale in it, where u need to jump down into it like a pit, saw an orange msg left by a player there saying WARNING DRAKE AHEAD!! was i being trolled ? cause there was no drake there when i was in undead form or in human form Run around Blighttown swamp area in human form. Maneater Mildred should invade in a few minutes. Kill her. When you get to Queelag's fog door you'll see her summon sign there. You have to be in human form to be able to summon. I highly recommend doing this if you're finding Queelag difficult (the first time she feels challenging). Mildred is very strong and will distract and tank Queelag's attacks. There's a DRAKE SCALE in that room, not an actual drake
Tyler
BTW I started a SL1 playthrough with a Pyro. Killed Taurus and took a break. So far it's manageable. But I'm already dreading O&S.
pbpoovannagamer
tried soloing quelaag she is damn tough i am not able to damage her at all. tried hitting her from behind when she gets ready to spit her lava puke....... no use!! 4 times i went and failed
Tyler
Do not try hitting her from behind. Her a*s attack does a ton of damage. Try hitting from the sides. Never stay directly in front or behind of her.
pbpoovannagamer
ok gonna try side attack by wielding my claymore with 2 hands, single hand attack did only 80 dam, shield is useless in this fight
Tyler
Have you upgraded your weapons and shield? At this point your Claymore should be at least +5.
pbpoovannagamer
oooh what a feeling i killed the bitch queen quelaag on 8th attempt, i think i battled her for almost 15 mins the final time and my heart was pounding the whole time. what a relief to see her die!! ok so please advice which way to go now!! should i go to lower undead burg ? should i explore area behind queelag's domain ? i saw some mountains of lava and stuff there
Tyler
Haven't you already been to Lower Undead Burg yet? It seems like you broke the sequence and went to Blighttown using the Firelink/Valley of Drakes shortcut. I honestly wouldn't recommend sequence breaking in the first playthrough. Anyway if you have finished Blighttown the next destination should be Sen's Fortress. The area beyond Blighttown is Demon Ruins. You'll come here later but you can try and take on the first boss there (Ceasless Discharge) and getting the Gold-Hemmed robes set. Very nice armor-set for Pyromancers. There's a very easy way to take out the boss in a couple of hits from any weapon.
