Snake
First-person shooters. Your PC days are numbered. Microsoft’s Kudo Tsunoda reckons it.The Kinect chief told Game Informer that “hardly anyone” plays FPS on PC now, with Halo redefining how shooters are seen on consoles.“Halo did an awesome job of building a first-person shooter exclusively for the console, and now hardly anyone plays first-person shooters on the PC anymore,” he claimed.Hey id, Valve? Might want to stop developing RAGE or Portal 2 for PC now.He explained: “If you think about the way that first-person shooters evolved, they started on the PC.“People for the longest time tried to port shooters from the PC onto the console.“And people said the same things that they are saying now about Kinect – ‘It’s never going to be responsive enough to do this,’ or ‘You’re never going to get a fun first person shooter on the console’ – it’s only made for a keyboard and mouse and that is the way it is supposed to be played.’“And as long as everyone was just porting the existing shooters over to console, they weren’t as fun as the PC ones. Of course, they were built for the PC.” Source: http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/09/18/-Talking-Kinect-With-Kudo.aspx

praveer
Wait did he said Halo redefining shooters well those numbers are good but Reach is doing like 200000+ on average at anytime....take your guess regarding peak numbers & what it would be after 1-2 months from release. I myself like playing games on PC more than other platforms but for the most part its console versions which take the cake for most players (I said most cause you do have cases like BFBC2 every now & then...where the PC numbers outdo both consoles combined in terms of active players). Aftrunner
Sensation seeking headline aside there is an interesting point he makes. “If you think about the way that first-person shooters evolved, they started on the PC.“People for the longest time tried to port shooters from the PC onto the console. This is actually going the other way around now. PC FPSs used to be Health bars, 10 different weapons, select grenades before you throw them, Quicksave/quickload, no melee attack etc. Now we get recharging health/shield, two weapon system, single button nade usage, quick melee, checkpoint system etc. CoD is practically a case study. It moved from the first to the second in a space of 3 years. So yeah, “Hardly anyone plays first-person shooters on the PC any more” might sound pompous but compared to consoles the numbers really are insignificant. Forget Halo Reach there are probably more people playing MW2 on the 360 alone than all the top 10 steam games added together. Rest of it is the usual PR BS. :|
Pushy
^ Yeah man, that's right, those 400,000 are playing Reach for nothing. why r u comparing the online status to KZ2? Reach is a new game on XBL and there are so many Gaybots of Gaylo(me included - for SP only), so there are bound to be that many players playing it right now...and besides i never bothered to compare the online MP status of any MP games, i simply said KZ and COD are fun to play....even i played Gaylo MP (Gaylo tripple) but it was hard as compared to COD (KZ2 wasn't released back then)...f**k i don't even game online now-a-days, so when i compare the fun i have had in MP in KZ2 and COD, is far more better than Gaylo Three, so for me KZ2 and COD >>GTA4>>Gaylo in MP

Hawaldar
he is absolutely correct in his statement, its sad for an avid pc gamer such as myself to see the slow demise of pc gaming.

ctrl_alt_del
As much as it pains me to say this, but I found playing COD:MW and MWII to be more fun on XBL than on the PC. Matches were easy to get, there was almost next to none cheating, no stupid mods with Unreal Tournament voiceovers, the list goes on. But then again, I did invest a lot of time playing BFBC2 on the PC. It was fun. But would I have minded playing it on the console? Not at all. Would the fun factor be the same as that of the PC. I think it would be.

Zzombie
Most of the PC gamers like me who started FPS in 90's must have been sick by now with traditional shooters. Only Bioshock in recent years did anything different but they couldn't get it to work in multiplayer. On the other hand FPS on consoles how awkward it may be, has gained popularity and we can't deny with his assessment(apart from the halo redefining thing). There are decent bunch of people who play FPS on PC's but at the end of the day its all about money. MW2 has proved that even an average shooter can be a massive hit with consoles so there is no reason to develop exclusive FPS titles on PC anymore. Halo is the reason we are seeing matchmaking, dual wielding,re-generating Health shields and 1 button grenade throws and all in shooters today.. (Killzone toh bacha hai abhi ) Halo was first shooter to have drivable vehicles in both s.p and m.p M.P no fun??? ...looks like you havn't played Halo m.p yet ...M.p toh jaan hai game ki...lol @Topic..Kudos is a moron no doubt..... ..
