It'll detect any subtitle files that are in the same directory as the film and load them automatically. Another option would be to install the Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP) which has all the codecs you'll ever need as well as Media Player Classic and Zoom Player. There's some amateurish editing which tries hard to ruin the movie - but cannot.
