Saw Sivaji- The boss....superb movie...Rajnikanth jitna bolo kaam hai...his action only he can do it...no body can pul;l that stuff...yeh dabang vabang bacha hai uske samane....I really enjoyed it....From start to finish. I think i may watch it again some time...also there is a song in t hat where they have mentioned sega.....it goes like this in the hindi version atleast....na na na na ....Sega Fight! Sivaji Right!....the place in the background when there is action happening on screen... or when punch lines are spoken by Rajni...

This is certainly not my cup of tea....I might die of torture if I watch any south indian movies...

But I having nothing against rajni....the guy is doing a great job entertaining SI crowd....

Sivaji was somewhat decent / enjoyable (when watching in theaters with all the whistling and "thalaivaaaaa" shouts all around) once you'd switched your brain off. Plus there was Shreya Saran doing some moves ;)

However I found that latest flick Robot pretty terrible, all that action looked like something out of some low budget CG flick and rather overdone. Especially the last half, just facepalm-worthy.

And for the record, I don't really like Rajini as an actor all that much. Don't quite see what the draw is in most of his latest movies unless you switch aforementioned top floor off before entering the cinema.

I agree...superman bacha log ka superhero hai....batman Jawano ka superhero hai....coz he is just like a normal human and yet he fights ....sab villain ka baap - The Joker. :majesty:

Going merely by the popularity of their respective villains even, Superman's main villains never seem to be as popular / well-known as those of Batman. And lex luthor , bah just another super-rich mad scientist / evil genius. Nobody near as iconic as the Joker.

Just watched Dhobi Ghat. Brilliant film!!!

Took me back to a million memories during the 15 years I spent in Mumbai, within the duration of 90 minutes. Kiran Rao's camera is curious, at 24 fps it's a photography montage where each frame has a story to tell.

PS - Before the film there as a short Delhi Belly teaser. I couldn't make out anything from the trailer itself. Any idea if Amir Khan is producing a series of films based in different metros as a series?? If yes then that would be brilliant.

Speak for yourself. I am DEFINITELY disrespecting Superman. Epitome of lazy writing.

...

what stories have you read featuring the big blue ? Yes because of his power set he its easy to write anything anything and make superman solve it by pulling a new power out his a*s (that actually happened a lot in pre crisis.. moving the planets bare hand seesh :|) but there are some very very good arcs if you are willing to jump in the character.

and lazy.. just because he has all the powers. well when reading about superheroes why would anyone bring realism :S If you go that route batman is probably more unreal than superman.. that amount of jumping around, fighting and physical stress IS impossible for any 'normal' human being if one looks at it that way.. also, those gadgets

Supes can be very interesting if you look beyond the obvious, the latest reboot deals with the idea of a young Clarke Kent juggling with ideas of what to do with his life, with his powers he can strike rich in any field, science, sports, business (and he does) but he leaves all that to serve the people selflessly. The great thing about superman is his unwavering faith in the good of people and doing the right thing. What if doing the right thing meant doing the wrong thing in some situations, how will this challenge his faith or make him grow as a being. What if superman was in a fight against a mere mortal who is too fragile to be tackled by his powers without killing him yet has to be stopped to save people.

In this regard i think superman sometimes is much more interesting character than spidey or bats because, he has absolute power and absolute faith and when there is an internal conflict between these two the possibilities are endless, and that’s what makes great superhero fiction. Its very easy for superman to go all rogue and become a villain, he has no obligations (hardly knew his parents) unlike batman, spiderman who have emotional baggage, no one can stop him if he wants to and yet he does not. There are arcs that deal with this moral dilemma and they make a very good readings.

BTW, saw this awesome...awesome poster.

whoa !! sweet stuff man. The art work is very Long halloween'ish. Love it !

Just watched Vicky Cristina Barcelona. An interesting film. I liked that it was quite whimsical. While not much actually happens in the film, it throws up a bunch of characters who act as a conduit for questioning your approach to life, wherever you sit along the spectrum. Each of the characters are unlikeable on some level (some more so than others), yet they present a prototype we all recognise.

One thing I didn't like was the narrator's voice-over. It pulled me out of the film too much and re-engaged the sense of disbelief that you traditionally suspend in watching a film.

@nemo you are missing the point. I am sure some decent arcs exist for Superman. But what of it, really?. If I had people write comic books about a plank of wood for 80 years I am sure a few of them would turn out to be good. It doesnt make the plank of wood an awesome character. Its just the old thousand monkeys hammering at a thousand typewriters for a thousand years scenario.

Give it long enough and someone will make something out of it. It still doesnt change the fact that its a lazy, poor character with a sh*t to good story ratio that actually makes Ed Wood look good.
