Spileberg - Jackson to Make Tintin Movie Together

Two of todays best directors will get together to make a trilogy on the adventures of Belgian detective and journalist Tintin.

One of the most powerful Hollywood directors, Steven Spielberg, has decided to direct the first movie of the trilogy on the Belgian comic book detective, Tintin, while Peter Jackson, director of the famous ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy will direct the second one.

Jackson and Spielberg will find an agreement about the direction of the third movie.

When last year it was announced that Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson would direct the trilogy together, the details on the movie were kept more secret than military operations.

The only thing that was confirmed is that Andy Serkis will play the role of captain Haddock and that the shoot will start this spring.

Thomas Sangster, 17, was chosen by the Oscar-winning director to star in his forthcoming film bringing the boy reporter of Belgian author Herge's comic books to life.

The multi-million dollar trilogy is likely to propel the A-Level student into the Hollywood A-list if it mirrors the success of other recent literary adaptations such as Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter.

Spielberg has been collaborating with Lord Of The Rings director Peter Jackson to bring the iconic figure to the big screen, along with his faithful dog Snowy and his friend Captain Haddock.

British actor Andy Serkis, best known for playing Gollum in Jackson's trilogy, has been cast as the drunken mariner.

Sangster, a child actor, appeared as Liam Neeson's son in Love Actually and with Emma Thompson in Nanny McPhee.

The teenager, who is taking A levels in art and media studies and works part-time at a garage, admits he had not read the Tintin books until a few days ago.

Tintin in LA: The first movie will be released in 2012

He said: "I love the cartoons. I never saw the books because I was never that big on reading.

"Tintin is like a super boy scout. He would hit people over the head with bottles. He was cool."

The child of theatrical parents - father Mark is starring as the mad hyena in The Lion King - Sangster is currently rehearsing for the latest Jane Campion movie.

He is also the second cousin of Hugh Grant, his co-star from Love Actually.

The first Tintin movie is set to be released in 2010.

It will be Sangster's first leading role as an adult and his biggest role to date.

tintin - awesome news about the guy being cast. it should be fun.

the reason asterix / obelix sucked so much was because it's a french film - and tried to translate a lot of the physical humour to the screen (that's tough to do). tintin should be fun.
