How was the ending OTT? It was foreshadowed from the very first shot of the movie. It was a sci-fi movie set in the Victorian era. A more realistic take on steampunk if you wish to call it that. If you thought it pulled a complete 360 "bonkers" ending then you need to go back and watch it again. Almost everything is right in front if you right from the start. All the ending does is put everything in proper context.

Besides it's based on a book... though I'm not sure how faithful it is to the source material.

Yeah, but they were not sequels of each other. If you see some of the most famous franchises like spidey/Terminator/Matrix etc, the third part is always the worst. Its like a jinxed or something. Anyway, even I hope the third part is as awesome as the first two !

not always...how about LOTR3,Toy story 3, Diehard 3 ??...besides it's the frickin batman...

as for prestige, I don't even consider it as a SCI-FI movie..it's perfectly realistic and plausible movie with great drama. Check IMDB boards, FAQ if you think the ending is OTT.

Memento, The Prestige, Batman Begins, TDK, Inception. If he had to screw up, he would have done it already. He's been consistently good. The only weak film he's done is Insomnia and even that is better than your average suspense thriller.

+1

Insomnia was a very good movie but all the others are just excellent

Toy story is a classic example where sequels are better than the original.

rare one. Usually sequels are not better than the original unless planned in advance

Another rare one and possibly the mother of all unplanned sequel is Terminator 2, bigger and better than the original in every way possible.

LoTR, Bourne. Both movies had 3rd parts better than the rest.

But I think those are the exceptions. Most of the time the 3rd movie gets screwed. Even happened to The Godfather 3

I knew someone would bring LOTR 3, but if you see LOTR was one big book, was split into three parts, no way the third part could go bad. And for your toy story3/die hard 3 , I counter with Godfather 3 :P

Regarding prestige, so teleportation is perfectly realistic and plausible to you :ko: ?

Have you seen prestige ??? :scratchchin:

Yes, I've. But why do u ask ? Did I understand it wrongly ? Wasn't that what the machine (the equipment given by tesla) did other than creating a clone of jackman ?
