Tyler
talking about retro sci-fi movies, anyone here seen a movie called 'Dune' ? Of course... another underrated title. Great universe, great story but like most great sci-fi movies, ultimately a B.O. failure.

I liked it too....but was surprised to hear it was a flop. Maybe it was ahead of its time or something !
Tyler
Mainly because the original cut was hard to follow and heavily edited, people could not follow the plot. Also, unlike Star Wars or other sci-fi hits, Lynch didn't put too much emphasis on fancy VFX.

MarketTantrik
Dark City Director's Cut Review I don't know how many of you have seen this great underrated sci-fi/noir movie, let me just say it's one of my favorite movies of all time. It's basically The Matrix minus the wire-fu and bullet time and a with little more brains, and it came out two years before The Matrix. From the review it seems that this is how the movie was supposed to be in the first place. The studio decided to add a voice over in the beginning explaining the whole "twist" in the opening scene itself, which the Director's Cut removes. I still remember the first time I watched the movie I missed the voice over and the movie felt so amazing because I had no freaking clue about what was going on... and it was absolutely brilliant! It flopped at the box office but quickly became a cult movie after the DVD came out. The cast is great, the atmosphere is brooding and the visual effects are VERY good for it's budget and it has Jennifer Connelly... so if you haven't seen this movie already, go watch it and pick up the Director's Cut. Every self respecting sci-fi fan needs this movie in their collection. If you can't find the Director's Cut, make sure you mute the first minute or so... This is onr of my all time favourites. I believe I've harped on this flick a number of times in this thread. Its absolutely brilliant and a fitting inspiration to the Matrix. @tyler: Even I missed the voice over the first time through this movie and I was left jaw dropped when the climax arrived. Aftrunner
i heard taht HOLLYWOOD is making a remake for that movie.Saw it on IMDB. WTF? They already remade it a while back (The magnificent seven, decent film but not worthy enough to be mentioned in the same sentence as the Seven samurai) and they wanna remake it? Again? Isnt that a remake of a remake? New low even by remake standards.
Bulovski
Seven Samurai is a classic - any remake is just putting oneself up for a world of hurt.
