Watched Saw V today...

Although the series has lost steam a long time ago, this instalment is actually better than the last two. It's more of a detective thriller like the first one than a gross out shocker like Saw III. Sure there are some nasty traps (particularly the one that opens the film) and plenty of red stuff but it doesn't feel overdone this time around... or maybe I have just become desentisized to violence in media. The main problem with the movie is the total lack of shocking twists (despite the tagline - "you won't believe how it ends."). I certainly did not, because I wasn't expecting the credits to suddenly pop up when they did.

It does however explain a lot of things from the previous movies. Like Saw II, there is a main "game" involving five people, which is actually quite well done. The traps in the game did not seem gratuitous (no body twisting torture devices this time around). As usual don't expect a lot of realism though. It's still over the top stuff complete with people taking the stupidest of actions usually leading to getting themselves killed.

The movie also leaves a lot of stuff unanswered, but it's quite expected with Saw VI, VII, VIII and who knows how many more coming out each Halloween. If you're a fan of the series you will like this one, if you like thrillers in general you might find it interesting but if you think the franchise should have ended with Jigsaw closing the bathroom door on Adam in part one, this isn't gonna change your opinion.

Finally watched Day Watch (Duvnoy Dozor) on DVD last night. What can I say... it's definitely one of the most eccentric movies I've ever seen. The story is great and the characters are awesome, totally unpredictable. However, this is definitely not a movie for everyone. It's long, at times difficult to follow and just plain strange. The VFX are top notch and rival some of the Hollywood biggies. If you didn't like the previous film (Night Watch), stay clear of this one. I would say Night Watch was lot more accessible and easier to follow than this film. I'm still not sure if I liked Day Watch though, it's an interesting movie, very different, but I still prefer Night Watch.

There are a lot of situations in the movie that will make you do "WTF!?" but once you understand the universe and the characters it all starts making sense. I've never read the books the movies are based on so I don't know how true it is to the books. But if you're looking for a different kind of good vs evil fantasy tale set in modern times, give it a try.

Nice. I haven't seen Pineapple Express yet, but Mononoke Hime is wonderful.

Pineapple Express is BY FAR the best stoner movie made after Grandma's boy and the First Harold and Kumar.

Pineapple Express, Step brothers are a must see.

Burn after Reading was also brilliant, and so was Body of Lies.

Bangkok Dangerous sucks c*ck for pure recreation

An old Tarantino flick 'Four Rooms', Comedy like Burn after Reading, also good movie.
