On topic, as much as I loved 300. I really don't want its sequel. I don't think it can capture the epicness of original movie. Some movies need to be left alone. 300 is one of them.

not a sequel per se. this movie takes place before, during and after the original 300. it doesnt continue 300's story as there was nothing to continue. it does not have the same characters except the persian king. 300 was a part of larger greek mythos, loosely based on real events, no reason we cannot have spin offs in the same universe.

it is more a movie from the persian side. xerxes and her second in command, played by the ever pleasant sight to the eyes Eva Green.

I know its not a sequel but they are using the name. if it turns out to be bad (which is unlikely because ZS is involved) people will the first one bad too :( something like PoTC :( and I genuinely like 300.

MoS this week confirmed B) yeah, this is me going for a superman movie. And before anyone say it, I am eating crow already :P

They are using the name cause it has recognition. 300 was the best action movie since the glorious 80s.

I had read somewhere that this prequel is also loosely based on some battle of artreium or something, its nice to see how they mix some historical facts with fiction (demonized Persian immortals etc), some may not like it, but its fun way to depict a story.

yeah it is. in fact it was called 300: Battle of Artemisium for a while. Said battle was a naval engagement that happened simultaneously with the battle of Thermopylae (original 300), just on the other end of the map and with other greeks city states.
