Chetan bhagat writes garbage but I did enjoy the iit book and (brief) parts of 2 states. Maybe cause in case of former I was 6 years younger than what I am today.. Standards (??). But I really liked it at the time of reading.

All his other books toh were bad, back then and right now.

Chetans Bhagat doesn't intend to write literature masterpieces, they are memoirs.

Five point someone, who graduated in 90s can relate better, private engineering colleges were not so popular and those who got to IITs worked their asses off literally to get there. And a lot of them used to be from very modest backgrounds who didn't have much idea about living "in style".

I didn't read one night, but two states was great, 3 mistakes super crap.

I read five point some one when I was in my Engineering college (lol the book is so old) hostel, it was an amazing read then, in Engineering hostel reading about Indian Engineering hostels

I enjoyed Two states a LOT since I have lived in Chennai for two years, distinctly remember the episode where he mentions the bullying auto-waalahs, that was so so true that I laughed my guts out, same with debates about Hariharan and S P Balasubramaniam, or A R Rehman and Illyaraja

Finally watched Into The Darkness couple of days back. Absolutely blown away by the film. One of the best blockbusters I have watched. I love the fact they respect the intelligence of the audience and take care in setting up the events of the movie and building up the relationship between Kirk and Spock.

Its been freaking ages since I last watched so many Tamil/Regional Indian Films in such a short stretch. For me Bollywood has lost any creativity and innovation it had and is churning out so much spiel that it sickens me to even read the success of these films at the box office. While at the same Mollywood and Kollywood are churning out absolute classics. Im loving the style and stories/screenplay and direction of the Tamil films that come out these days. While Mallu films have always remained the dominant force in India film making(and are continuing to do so)

Also watched Pizza(Tamil): 8/10

Excellent horror film. Only The Conjuring and Pizza have made me that scared in recent times(since Paranormal 1 and Rosemarys Baby). The plot twist was set up beautifully but it bothered me. But dont want to spoil it for anyone. Even if you dont know Tamil, Id suggest you watch this movie with subtitles(or even without, it has a lot of English).

Soodhu Kavum(Tamil): 6.5/10

Inspired by Snatch and Lock Stock, very clearly. Stylishly shot film and had an incredible first half. The characters are interesting and the screenplay is well thought out. Its quite funny as well. The movie however suffers from the poor scripting to end the heist film. Like lot of heist films, it falls flat on the face in the ending and makes it a very generic finish that is neither funny, entertaining or inspiring. But its still a very original film. Definitely worth watching when you have time.

Naduvil Konjam Pakatha Kaanum(Tamil): 8.5/10

Hilarious film with such an amazing cast. The chemistry between characters is brilliant and the fact that it is a real life story is super. In brief, one person in a group of 4 close friends is going to get married. 2 days before his wedding, all wedding tasks are done so they decide to chill by playing some cricket. While playing cricket the groom trips and hits his head and suffers from short term memory loss. The trials and challenges the friends face in getting him married is just amazing and funny.

Why are you so bothered of what someone else thinks of the movie?

Yea, I rarely read reviews these days. Just go, watch, regret or watch again.

I used to judge movies on the basis of there trailers, & more often than not, was able to judge if a movie is worth watching or not.

now check ratings, just to make sure that the few movies i do watch courtesy lack of time amongst other things , are worth it.

(chennai express was the only exception that i ended up watching without checking the rating, therby validating the above theory  )

No, only you visualise tall hunks.

Secondly, dhoom; Having legacy? lulz wut?

Thirdly, Marky Mark Whalberg played max Payne, tom cruise has done stuff like collateral. Both were convincing and are barely an inch taller than AK (if at all).

If dhoom is really about bikes then it shouldnt really matter how long the legs riding them, are. We arent talking fisticuffs (though AK would wtf own abhishek in real life), but shenanigans on bikes and some badly choreographed gun fights. Height doesnt really play any role in that.

yeah nope. most people do. fast bikes and tall hunks is what 7 out of 10 would think when u say Dhoom.

Marky and Tom's heights aren't what got them where they are...so that aspect was never even on the table. things work a little different in hollywood...also, when u look like tom cruise and can carry yourself like he does height is the least of your worries. comparing AK with wahlberg or cruise just because they're similar in height is naive beyond words.

and no...only you think dhoom's all about bikes..where is it etched in rock that it is?...it's about cheesy songs,semi-refined , often-awfully choreographed bike chases and tall hunks...hell there's like a 2 minute walk in dh1 where AB jr. and abraham walk past each other on a sidewalk..if you don't think height is one of the things being emphasized there, you really don't know what dh is about then...also about the legacy part...every movie/book/work ot art has one....whether good or bad is a different story but they all do.....your "lulz" doesn't preclude dh from having one.....and amir doesn't fit into it if he takes a crowbar to pry it open.

you needn't look good to be a lead but most of the leads in movies do.....long legs...bike-riding...same story.

lastly, for the love of life itself stop acting like the custodian/chaperon of all opinions expressed on this forum...it's getting tiring.

how is the new Riddick ? read a review in times of india. a woman (yes am being sexist: women should NEVER review manly movies, they just dont and cannot get it) gave it 2.5/5 and said it had nothing except gratuitous violence, curse words aimed at women and homos.

Then she wrote that it was not surprising as the previous riddick movie was (notice 'was' ie she didnt even mention Pitch black- she doesnt even know the whole lore ) nothing good either. Then i called her a ho and burnt the paper.

bitches be crazy :loco:

If you liked Pitch Black then Riddick will disappoint you. I was :(

In fact, i was so badly disappointed that i had to watch Pitch Black again right after the 10pm show last night.

Corny dialogue and poor pacing. The mercs are a f***ing joke.

Wow, dhoom has rabid fanboys :| the more you know...

anyhoo, no point arguing about nonsense. AK is twice the actor john, hritik and abhishek are. And btw John was pretty epic in first doom, all most as good as hritik was bad in doom 2. And if they are taking a short actor then they'd play it that way that height doesnt become a factor, ie no slow mo parallel walks (btw why would anyone want the same scene repeated in a sequel). They should ensure that bike and guns do more of a talking.

secondly, the movie is gonna be bad no matter what. Biker movies are always below average. The whole culture is pretty juvenile, douchy and doesnt translate well on screen (or anywhere for that matter). I really dont think any movie since the marlon brando days has been successful both critically and commercially. There is no F&F, italian job, transporter's counter part to two wheels- is what i am saying.

Stuff like Torque is only good for one time shits and giggles; but cupboard is pretty barren otherwise.

I remember that scene. Whole theater was whistling. John was too good in Dhoom 1. But AK will pull it off. That guy can do anything.

The best way to describe Riddick is to use the best line from the movie itself -

Somewhere along the way I lost a step, got sloppy... dulled my own edge. Maybe I went and did the worst crime of all: I got civilized.

Riddick plays out more like a novel-adaptation rather than a badass action-packed movie.

And please don't get me started about the mercs - more like a dozen desperate B-Grade actors out to make a quick buck by posing as mercenaries. Ironic, cause the actors really are B-Grade material in reality.
