Ne0
I've got The Wrestler and Benjamin Button waiting for this weekend @..Ne0..: You don't have to know the original language. That's what subtitles are for. What I was trying to say is that a lot of the little cultural intricacies that go with speaking ones mother-tongue are lost when you use a third language. I'm not saying don't do it; just that it needs to be balanced with local dialects as well. And I may or may not know Malayalam That I agree with. I was watching this movie called 'the perfect murder' on zee cinema recently. Was really put off with everyone from Naseer to the police commissioner to the servant of the house speaking fluent English. Looks very artificial. On a side note, I didn't see the full movie for the reasons mentioned above. But, anyone seen this movie....looked interesting. Is it worth a watch ? Edited December 31, 2008 by ..Ne0.. Tyler
just saw Shoot On Sight good movie ^^ Y'know somehow I can't seem to take a serious movie directed by a former soft-porn director seriously... zophar
Gomorra - great film... a little bit slow but I expected that.. shows the real-life working of the modern day mafia.. dont go in expecting anything like the godfather though.. Ne0
Can someone recommend some good asian cinema (not bollywood ) ? Don't want anything too violent or gross. Something with a good narration, good narration , top notch acting , direction etc. Something on the lines of 'oldboy'

Daedalus
saw ghajini yesterday. i went in expecting a bad movie and i wasn't disappointed. at the cinematography. at the story. at the music and sound effects. at Jiah Khan at the couple sitting right next to me and making out for 3 and a half hours. one thing that i found unintentionally funny was the mumbai police officer running behind the BEST bus like jason bourne. Aftrunner
^^ Have seen the hollywood version - 'the departed'. Are the movies different ? Nevertheless, will keep it on my list. Its differant. The central theme is the same, plus a couple of set peices are alike but aside from that there is enough to make The Departed its own film. And FWIW Infernal affairs is brilliant. Imagine a more thoughfull and calm version of The Departed (esp. no over the top acting from Jack Nicholson) and you have Infernal affairs. I love both films though. Bulovski
True - both films are great. Leo is brilliant in Departed. But Infernal Affairs is muted and the sequels are also good. Departed puts in stuff from Infernal Affairs 3 as well.

Imagine a more thoughfull and calm version of The Departed (esp. no over the top acting from Jack Nicholson) and you have Infernal affairs. I love both films though. Yup! Both are great. As much as I love IA, I prefer The Departed... the actors did a great job... yes, even Jack. IA's characters were definitely more believable though, esp. Lau (Sullivan), he wasn't as obnoxious as Sullivan. PS: Watched Ghajini... why are people loving this movie again? Even if you leave the whole Memento element aside it's still an extremely average film. Edited January 2, 2009 by Tyler
Aftrunner
I thought Jack was way over the top at times, nearly ruined the film for me. When he was being serious he was brilliant as ever but at times he really went overboard. Film belonged to Leo though. Brilliant performance.
